"France get over here," my adoptive 'father' says his breath smelling of alcohol and I keep my head down as I walk over to him. "Be gone now, go down to the docks, and don't come back until you have money for me" he says.

"Oui Monsieur," I say scurrying outside. What, did I expect America to be better? No, I just wish I was back home. Even if that means begging on the streets of Paris. I keep my head down and find my way over to the 'lovely ladies'. They were fake blonds, with spray on tans, caked on makeup, and way too tight revealing clothes, if you can call them clothes. A group of men walk by and the rest of the girls attack them. I hear more voices and look up to see a group of boys, slightly older than me walking in my direction. I watch one of the guys continue walking to me as the rest of them continue talking. The other boys sit down not noticing his absence.

"Hello miss," he says his breath reeking of alcohol,

"Hello sir," I say biting my lip before raising my head just enough to see him but him not see my face. I placed a hand on his chest as he reaches into his pocket.

"How much do you charge?" he asks and I try not to gag.

"It's negotiable," I say and just as he pulls out his wallet one of the boys calls him.

"Grant, what the hell," One of the boys sitting down yells and I groan under my breath. The man, apparently called Grant slowly stumbles out of the alley we were in. "Grantaire, we've discussed this." An all too familiar voice says. The man shoves me harshly away from him causing me to fall to the ground and throws a few $20 at me, "Leave my friends alone and go run along now, find a different client to-" he says and I cut in,

"Thank you sir," I murmur under my breath starting to walk away. "Oh," I say turning back around. "Vive la france," I say stopping trying to hide my accent. "Enjy" I say bringing my head up for the first time since I left the house. I wait a few seconds before darting away. I started figuring out my way home and finally started seeing things I recognize when someone grabs my wrist.

Enjolras' pov.

"We can't just keep on turning away from the poor." I yell from the top of a table and the crowd responds with a bunch of cheering and yelling. "We are one of the richest countries yet we still have people on the streets struggling in every way possible, never knowing when their next meal is going to be, constantly fearing death around every corner. Yet we have people who have never worked a day in their lives getting everything and more handed to them." I scream in the crowd applauds again. "We need to stop ignoring this injustice and take action, thank you, our next meeting is tomorrow same time same place-" I continue yelling when someone interrupts me.

"The police," they shout and me and the rest of the 'Les Amis' that were attending look at each other before running through the kitchen and out the back door. We already had an escape route that we all knew by heart. Once we got to a spot we knew was safe we started chatting again. I realised after sitting down that Grantaire was missing. I turn to see a lady placing a hand on his chest and him reaching for his wallet. I cup my hands over my mouth and yell,

"Grant, what the hell," he turns to me as I trudge over to him, he doesn't move away from her so I yell again. "Grantaire we've discussed this," I yell shoving the younger girl off of him not caring if she got hurt. As she fell I realised she looked no older than twenty, but still, she was using my friend. I grab a few dollars out of my pocket and throw them at her. "Leave my friends alone and go run along now, find a different client to-" I say when a familiar voice interrupts me.

"Thank you sir," she says softly while turning away, "Oh," she says a bit louder, "Vive la france," she says her french accent becoming more prominent. She looks up her eyes meeting mine and I instantly recognize her, "Enjy" she finishes. Light honey brown hair with a slight wave but mostly tangled and piercing blue eyes. She turns and starts sprinting. I run after her, grabbing her wrist as she starts to slow down. I spun her around and was overcome with guilt as I saw her eyes. They were filled with terror, fear, and pain. Pain that I know I caused her. She glances down before looking back at me and breaking down. She swaying slightly before collapsing. I hold her tightly as I rub her back She slowly picks her head up, "But you're gone, you left France to move to California, to marry a rich girl and live with your family. You told me, I trusted you." she sobbed. "I even made the mistake of loving you," she sniffled, "Why," I feel a hand on my shoulder but I shake it off.
