There's a lot of detailed and descriptive stories out there that have wonderful word choice, but they use the same exploits over and over. At some point you give up on finding a original story, so I'm going to sit here and think until I truly feel as if I found a new idea. In the meanwhile here's a list of everything I will try to avoid while creating a story right now.

1. Jonathan has scars

I'm tired of the idea that authors use scars to explain why Jonathan doesn't take off his mask. I feel like its kind of rude to even use this and I know they try to support it, but if he doesn't have scars then we shouldn't be using this to create some tension that's been used over and over. If he does have scars then we should love him no matter what, but in the meanwhile I don't like this constant idea that if he doesn't show himself then he has scars and then we emphasize how much he finds them ugly. Seems odd, so I won't be using this idea.

2. Jonathan is emo

No, not literally...well sometimes I've seen them make him super emo. Basically this means we use the exploit that he cuts himself and is in strong depression I'll continue this in the third exploit, but I really don't like this idea because we use pity on him and I hate the feeling of being pitied. I'm sure people who cut themselves and stopped or even still do it, don't like being pitied on.

3. Jonathan has a bad past

Wow like every story has this and I understand why we might use this and its not easy to not use this, but come on its excessive and an excuse for not creating a really interesting and more realistic background. We aren't all amazing writers, but this really needs to calm down. I've seen stories give Jonathan like abusive parents all the way to the idea that he was raped or tortured. Like wow...I know there's alternate universes, but this never makes sense and never establishes how he can trust people either. Its an easy excuse to create walls between characters using this exploit, but its everywhere and I feel like we need to use it in small bites rather than over seasoned bad taste.

4. Jonathan wears a mask

Yeah, let me explain this a little deeper because I feel like some might get mad at me... Basically Jonathan wears a mask which is the only thing we officially know about him, but this is as far as we go with...we use this to create a distance between characters and all feel thrilled when Evan finally sees his face, but for someone like me who has seen the repetitiveness of this...well it basically goes like this: *Unstraps mask sliding it off and revealing his perfectly shaped face.* Wow was that interesting? I bet you haven't seen that before in a story...Sarcasm. One of my favorite stories recently is Second Life where yes, he does wear a mask ingame, but the author also uses the idea that Evan is his professor and knows him both at school and ingame, however, he doesn't know its the same person. I like this because it gives a different layer and meaning to the mask, instead the mask is hiding the fact that Evan already knows him from real life, but hasn't realized it.

5. Highschool Fanfics

I love myself a highschool fanfic once in a while, but I've seen this common trend: Evan is the popular guy or jock and Jonathan is the new kid. *cue mysterious music* Man I've never seen this before...Again S-a-r-c-a-s-m. I understand we need to find a way to introduce and create a wall, but this is just so used to the point of ridiculous.

5. Gang Fanfics

Someone dies. Like always. No seriously click the back button on this book and go read a gang fanfic. Someone dies. I love when main characters die because it gives me a thrill, but...I never thought I'd say this...gang fanfics...use it every chance they can get. I used to cry when a character died and now I'm like, "Oh someone died uh huh expected," scrolls down like nothing happened.
