"I'm not punishing you for that just yet." I called back. "I'm punishing you for waking me up at the crack of dawn!"
"Oh don't be so dramatic Spencer!" Taylor called. "It was not the crack of dawn!"
"You can cook me lunch now too!" I yelled.
"Is that punishment for the text thing?" Zoe called.
"Zoe shut up!" Taylor yelled. I let out a laugh and poured myself some coffee from the coffee machine.
"Nope! You can do my washing and walk my dog for your punishment for trying to talk to Jayden." A collective groan sounded from the living room.

Three hours later and I was sitting out on the balcony working on an art piece plan for my classes next week when my phone started ringing. When I picked it up, I noticed that it wasn't a caller ID that I recognised and that it also wasn't someone calling from within the city. With a frown I pressed the phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Am I speaking to Spencer Rose?" Asked a quiet voice. I almost groaned. Bloody reporters.
"Yes this is she. How can I help you?" I asked.
"My name is Lucy. I'm calling from Sunny Side nursing home in Minnasota. I'm calling about your grandmother."
"How is she?" I asked, crossing my legs. "Tell her I'm sorry I haven't spoken to her in a while, life's been kinda hetic." But the Lucy woman didn't laugh.
"I'm sorry Miss, but I'm afraid I'm the bringer of bad news." My heart rate went up.
"What?" I asked.
"Your grandmother Miss." Said the Lucy woman. "She had a heart attack this morning. They've sent her to Minnasota central hospital. She's due to go into surgery in 9 hours." My world stopped. The phone dropped out of my hand and landed in my lap, but I hardly felt it. My grandmother had been my rock when my father was sentenced to prison for 14 years. She'd been the one who'd asked Mr and Mrs Collins if I could stay with them when she could no longer take care of herself. The idea of her going into surgery because it was possible she wouldn't make it throught the night scared the hell out of me. What would I do if she did go? Then I'd have no one.
I heard the balcony door open and someone took the phone off my lap.
"Hello?" I heard them ask.

Twenty minutes later and I was running around my bedroom, throwing this haphazardly into my suitcase.
"Spencer calm down." Said Zoe, trying to grab onto me as I spun past her, dumping my favourite jacket into the suitcase and my phone charger. "Can we stop and talk abut this for a minute?"
"There's nothing to talk about." I said. My tears were gone, dried up once I realised what I had to do. "My grandmother is dying. I have to be there. End of discussion."
"But can't you at least wait a day?" Zoe asked. "Seriously? You're just gonna take off like this with no warning?"
"Who needs a warning that I'm leaving town?" I asked. Zoe threw her hands up in the air.
