Chapter 1: Introductions

Tuesday had rolled around again, it was new assignment day. I wondered who it would be this time. I had spent the last three months working for some upper class marketing firm ran by a demon by the name of Mammon, a sinister demon who is part of the Seven Princes of Hell. He pretty much did anything he could to squeeze every last penny out of the average working class man and I was glad to have finished the job. It was a cold day in November and I was sat at my desk waiting for the new assignment to come in, I took a sip of my tea and sighed, I hate waiting Jenny always keeps me waiting.

Ah but look at me I'm probably confusing you, let me start with the basics, my name is Denzel Hunter which is funny because I'm actually a Demon Hunter, have been for about twelve years now, to your average person I may not look like much but my main goal in life is to rid the world of the horrible demons that plague it. The big and rich to the homeless and poor, they come in all shapes and sizes and to an ordinary person they look like you and me, well maybe not me.

I live in a small village called Rainhill just outside of Liverpool which is the main city near me. It's a nice little village with not many people here, but listen to me I'm diverting again let me explain about the whole demon hunter thing.

It all began on my fifteenth birthday. I started getting these weird dreams and my hair had begun turning white. I had looked online to see what all of this could mean but I got nothing. That was when she contacted me. Jenny she said her name was.. She taught me all of what I know today, she explained to me that I would begin to go through many changes and this all had something to do with the fact I am half demon.

At first I struggled to believe her, It sounds preposterous I know, half demon? I didn't even think demons existed let alone entertain the fact that I was some sort of half breed. To me demons were always just stories, stories you tell your kids when they're being naughty or things written in books to scare people into being nice to each other so they'll go to a nice place when they die.

The mere thought made me laugh at times, it's got to be a joke I thought, she can't possibly be serious about all this. I just ignored the email and tried to forget all about it. Maybe it'll all just blow over I thought to myself.

This all changed when the first package arrived. There was a knock at the door, I was half asleep and my dad answered it. He made his way up the stairs to my room and knocked on the door.

"Denzel it's for you, what have you been ordering now?" He asked me with a stern tone to his voice. He was right to be curious, last time it was an expensive shirt which I'd ordered on his card and he wasn't too impressed shall we say.

"I haven't ordered anything dad" I replied confused, what could this be.

I crawled out of bed and stumbled over to the door, still half asleep and with only one eye open I opened the door and took the package from his hands.

"It best not be as expensive as the last one!" He said looking at me with his trying to be stern face.

"I haven't ordered anything dad, I'm as puzzled as you  are".

I stared at the package, it was an unusual looking one, plain brown paper wrapped with a black ribbon and there was  a strange red wax seal in the top right corner two crossbows linked together with an open hand behind them.

"Well we'll find out at the end of the month, and if you're lying it'll be worse than last time" Dad said patting me on the shoulder with a slight grin on his face.

I sighed and closed the door. I threw the package onto my bed and walked over to my desk and switched the computer on.  I looked online to see what this wax seal could possibly mean but as with the last time I had searched for any information on this kind of thing I found nothing again.
