"I wouldn't say we're friends-" Phil wraps his arm around Dan's shoulder which cuts him off.

"I'm happy to be his friend." Phil smiles proudly and Dan gives him a hard glare.

Dan's mum smiles. "I'm sorry I'm a mess, his sister is still under the weather. She's been asking about you all day though Dan, you should go visit her." His mum informs him.

"That's what I was planning on doing." Dan moves Phil's arm off his shoulder and walks up the stairs. Phil following close behind him.

"Marita?" Dan calls softly into her room.

"D-Danny!" She squeals, trying to sit up from her spot but lays back down after her stomach tells her sitting up is a big no.

"Don't try and move." He tells her as he walks over to her bed and carefully sits down on it. "How are you feeling darling?" He puts his hand on her forehead to see if it's warm, which it definitely is.

"Terrible, like yesterday." She pouts. "Am I going to get the sickness you did?" She whispers.

"No Ri-Ri. You won't, I promise you that. My sickness was way different from yours." Dan brushes the hair out of his sister's face.

"Who's behind you?" Marita asks, trying to move her head to see the stranger.

"That's Phil, I'm tutoring him but that's nothing big. You'll get better soon darling, don't worry." He smiles at her and she smile back.

Marita and Dan talk a little but until the sound of Phil's shoes anxiously moving over the the carpeted floor grabs Dan's attention. "I have to cut this visit short, as I don't want Phil to wait to long, he gets really talkative and I'd rather not have him start blabbering out an introduction about himself." Marita giggles and Phil scoffs from the doorway. "I'll visit you later though yeah? We can fall asleep watching cartoons again." Dan promises, giving her warm forehead a soft kiss. She smiles widely at the idea.

"Yay!" She giggles again and Dan leaves his spot on her bed. "See you Danny!"

"See you later Ri-Ri." He smiles at her before walking out of her room with Phil at his heels.

"So she can call you Danny but I can't?" Phil pouts as they enter Dan's bedroom.

"Well she is my sister and I love her. You're not my sister, I don't love you, and I met you yesterday." Dan States simply as he kicks off his shoes as sits down at the head of his bed.

"If I get you to love me can I call you Danny?"

"What are you playing at Lester?" Dan raises an eyebrow at the new kid who was taking off his shoes just like Dan did.

"Last names eh? Is that how were going to play this game? Alright, Howell, to answer your question I want to be your friend." Phil says with a smile.

"No, no way. I'm only here to tutor you. I don't do 'friends'." Dan says matter of factly as he grabs some materials from his backpack and rests them out on the bed.

"My sister used to call me Philly."

"Excuse me? What does this have to do with wanting to be my friend?" Dan asks.

"Well, your sister calls you Danny, and mine used to call me Philly." Phil explains. "We have something in common.

"Adding another letter that is the same as the one our actually name ends in along with a 'y' is not something people usually say they have in common with each other." Phil chuckles.

"You're a funny one Daniel."

"Its just Dan, moron."

"Alright dork." Phil returns the nickname with a goofy smile as he gets out the same materials Dan has layed out on his bed.

"Take out your English notebook, we'll start there. Also, I picked up on the last tense 'used to'. Mind explaining anything?" Dan looks up at Phil, his blank face tells Dan he's cursing himself on the inside.

"Um, well she's gone." Phil shrugs and looks down.

"Gone as in dead gone, kidnapped gone, moved away gone, ran away gone-"

"Just, gone." Phil doesn't meet his gaze.

"Alright, I'm sorry for your loss." Dan says blankly as he opens up his notebook. "So during the beginning of this year we read a bit of fantasy and had to write our own story and do some notes on fantasy elements such as-" Dan is cut off by Phil hugging him tightly. His arms and notebook are squished against them and Dan raises an eyebrow even though Phil can't see. "What the hell are you doing?"

"Hugging you, idiot."

"Why?"

"I need comfort."

"If I threaten you will you stop hugging me?" Dan asks, feeling very uncomfortable in this situation.

"Nope." Phil chuckles and rests his chin on Dan's shoulder.

"If I yell at you will you stop?"

"Nope. Besides, you wouldn't want Marita to hear you yelling at me, never mind your mum." Phil informs him, smiling out of Dan's eyesight.

"What will make this dreaded need of 'comfort' to stop?" Dan asks.

Phil chuckles at his wording for his question. "Hugging back." He replies, like it's the easiest thing in the world. When in fact, it was one of the hardest things in the world for Dan. Comforting someone, not his forte.

"No way."

"Yes way, come on you huggable human, hug me, comfort me in my time of need."

"You sound like a sick person trying to cuddle with their spouse."

"Um, thanks I guess. But you still have to hug me for me to let go." Phil tells him.

"Fine." Dan wiggled his arms out from in between their two bodies and drops the notebook before wrapping his arms around Phil in return. "Happy?"

"You're a great hugger. Next we'll work on kissing." Phil jokes.

"That's it, let go before I push you off myself."

"Why didn't you do that before hand?" Phil asks.

"I didn't think of it before hand."

"We're still hugging."

"Off." Dan hisses and Phil obliges.

"I like you Danny, you're fun to be around."

"It's just Dan." He grits his teeth as Phil releases him from the hug.

"Alright, just Dan, I have a proposal for you."

"I don't care, back to the lesson-" he reaches to retrieve his notebook but Phil places his hand over Dan's which makes his face turn red.

"I will become your best friend by the end of the school year, or make you fall for me." Phil proclaims proudly with a wide smile.

"Good luck with that." Dan lets out a cold chuckle.

"So it's on?" Phil's eyes light up.

"You know what, sure, it's on Lester." Dan challenges with a smile.

"Yes!" Phil, to Dan's surprise, grabs the other boys face and kisses all around it. "I will become your best friend or more!" He hugs Dan tightly, who is still frozen from shock of being kissed all around his face.

Beep, beep, beep.

"What was that?" Phil asks, beginning to pull away from the hug.

Dan holds him tightly so he doesn't break away and takes deep, slow breaths to calm himself. "Nothing, just my phone probably." However it wasn't his phone, it was his heart. And his heart only beeps for all to hear, when it's beating too fast.
