"Hey, Syd, do you wanna come play video games after classes?" Matt asked during lunch hour.

"Yeah, sure," Sydney replied, "What do you have in mind?"

She looked calm and relaxed, but also quite intrigued. She gnawed at her sandwich. She was more interested in going over to Matt's house than eating her boring sandwich, or having 45 minutes of her life being stolen by another teacher.

"I don't know, maybe Minecraft?" Matt questioned.  "That's always been one of your favorites."

Like Sydney, he was bored by his classes. His stupid salad was limp, unlike his time with Sydney. He liked being with Sydney. A lot. He didn't want to admit it to anyone, even himself, but a small part of him was romantically interested in his friend Sydney. A crush. A small little crush, that could grow to something larger.

Just stop it, he thought to himself.

We're only friends and having a crush on her would be awkward, he said to himself, while trying to squash his feelings for his friend.

All was normal for a few days. He ignored his thoughts and feelings for Sydney. They didn't matter to him.

A few days passed. Everyday, Sydney and Matt would sit together, plan to meet after school, and overall have a great time.

"Syd, my place for Minecraft?" Matt asked.

Matt asked this question as a rhetorical question. Everyday Sydney would go to Matt's house to play Minecraft, so Matt was expecting her to say yes.

Instead Sydney's response was "Actually, come over to my place. We can have snacks too." She smiled at Matt.

Why is she so cute when she smiles like that? Matt thought to himself.

Suddenly, the cafeteria is echoing with the sound of clicks.

     Click. Click. Click.

Unfortunately, Matt and Sydney recognized that sound instantly. High heels, but not just any high heels.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" A strikingly beautiful girl with golden hair and pink pumps smirks at the two.

"Wow, two geeks! It's so cute; you're drooling over each other's ugly little selves!"

"Shut up, Kim," Matthew said without emotion, "Your ego is almost as large as those breast implants that your daddy paid for you!"

"Ha! Well, before I go meet up with my boyfriend, I just wanted to let you know that for greasy little nobody's you would be a cute couple, I guess. Ta-ta!"

And with that, Kim and her pink pumps were clicking down the lunchroom, off to go skip class to meet her boyfriend for a date.

Matt and Sydney stared at each other. They didn't know what to say to each other.

"Um..." Matt said awkwardly, "Are we still on for Minecraft at your house?"

"Sure, unless you wanted to cancel for a date instead!" Sydney said with a chuckle.

Matt stared at her. Did she mean it?

"Heh, Don't get any ideas, Matt. That was just a joke. We're just friends, right?" Sydney asked concernedly.

     "Yeah... We're just friends..."
