Owen’s face looked horrible. He had a huge bruise at his right eye, and several deep cuts on his cheeks that were only just starting to heal. His left side looked slightly swollen, and just above his eyebrow was the largest cut of all.

‘Oh my God.’ I gasped. ‘What happened?’ I reached out to him, not daring to touch his face. I laid my hand on his upper arm, but he flinched away from me. ‘Not there too?’ I gasped, leaning toward him. I slowly buttoned down his shirt to take in the damage. I gasped loudly when I saw his chest. Large, purple bruises covered him, but his arms and shoulders were even worse. Deep cuts everywhere, like someone attacked him with a knife.

‘Jesus Christ!’ Sky shrieked. ‘Who did this to you?’

‘Amycus Arrow.’ Owen said quietly. ‘But it’s not as bad as it looks. I’m fine, really.’ He tried to smile at me, but it was more of a grimace of pain.

‘Why?’ I whispered, taking his hand carefully in mine, not touching any of his injuries. ‘Tell me, why?’

Owen shook his head. ‘It’s nothing, really. You know how he is.’

‘Nothing?’ Sky repeated. ‘Nothing? A paper cut, that’s nothing. You look like you should be grateful you’re still alive.’

‘Don’t overreact.’ Owen mumbled. ‘I’m fine.’

‘No, you’re not. I’m taking you to madam Pomfrey. Now.’ I stood up, tugging on his hand, but he didn’t move an inch.

‘I’m not allowed.’ he said, still speaking quietly. ‘Please, sit down.’

I did as he said, but not willingly. ‘Fine. But please, Owen, what’s going on?’

‘Arrow-’ Adrew started to say.

‘No.’ Owen interrupted. ‘Don’t.’

‘Arrow caught him and professor Flitwick hurrying to the common room.’ Andrew explained in spite of Owen’s complains. ‘He seemed to be in the mood for some serious punishment... And he forbade him to go to the hospital wing.’

‘Oh no.’ I moaned. ‘This is all my fault. I am so sorry, Owen.’ A single tear slid off my cheek. ‘This is all my fault.’

‘It’s not!’ Owen protested fiercely. ‘You can’t help it!’

The tears really started flowing now, and there was nothing I could do about it. Owen was hurt, and it was my fault. He could say whatever he wanted, it didn’t change a single thing. This was all my fault. I had kept Owen away from his own common room for so long. I was the reason he’d left it in the first place. All my fault.

‘Marie...’ Owen hugged me close to him, flinching when he pulled my against his chest. ‘Stop crying, please...’

I tried, but the tears kept welling up in my eyes. Now Owen was comforting me, while he was the one that needed comforting. God, I was such a bad girlfriend.

‘I told you she would react like this.’ Owen said angrily to Andrew. ‘I told you so.’

‘Yeah...’ Andrew mused. ‘I must admit you know her better than I thought.’

Owen dried my tears with his shirt and leaned slightly away from me, his face both worried and pained. ‘Are you okay, Marie?’

‘Yeah.’ I managed to choke out. ‘I am so sorry!’

‘I told you, it’s not your fault!’ he replied. ‘And besides, you really think I care about this...’ he gestured toward his cuts and bruises, flinching at the pain the movement caused. ‘...when I have you?’

I smiled. Even now, he still liked me? He was way, way too good for me. ‘Let me fix you up.’ I offered, pulling my wand from my pocket.

‘What?’ he frowned. ‘I’m not allowed to-’

‘Go to the hospital wing.’ I finished his sentence. ‘But you are allowed to let me fix you up, aren’t you?’

‘You know how?’ Andrew said, amazed. ‘But that kind of magic is really-’

‘Advanced?’ I asked with a smile. ‘It’s not that hard actually.’

‘Are you sure?’ Owen asked me nervously.

‘Completely.’ I replied. ‘Trust me on this. Now allow me...’ I flickered my wand at the smallest cuts, and they healed at an instant. I didn’t even bother to say the spell aloud. Then, I moved on to the bigger cuts. They, too, healed. The bruises were harder, but I managed to make the little ones disappear, and to shrink the big ones slightly. They turned form bright purple to light, fading blue, so they would be gone in a few days and they wouldn’t hurt as badly. Only the one at his eye I didn’t dare to approach. His eye was too easily hurt, I didn’t dare to risk anything. I did manage to make his face less swollen, at least.

‘Wow...’ Owen breathed, looking down at his chest. ‘I feel almost no pain at all anymore!’

I smiled. ‘I can’t do anything about your eye, though...’

‘Oh, don’t worry. I’ll manage.’ he grinned. ‘This is so much better already. Thanks.’

‘Can I get my kiss now?’ I asked, pouting.

‘Sure.’ He leaned in, stroking my hair tenderly.

Carefully, not touching the bruise at his eye, I grabbed his face and kissed him eagerly.

‘Hello – I’m eating!’ Sky protested, grinning.

I let go of Owen and smiled. ‘Sorry.’

Andrew smiled and shook his head. ‘I can’t believe it took you guys so long to get together.’

he said. ‘You’re so... perfect together.’

‘I know.’ Owen and I said in unison.

‘Ugh.’ Andrew said when we both laughed and kissed again. ‘Too perfect, really.’

My stomach rumbled impatiently, causing all of us to laugh.

‘I’m sorry, I’m keeping you from breakfast.’ Owen said, letting go of me. ‘Eat something.’

I growled, since I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t hold him while I ate. But I was pretty hungry. I snatched a few sandwiches off a plate and started eating. ‘Wait a minute...’ I said thoughtfully, after a few bites. ‘How did you eat with feeling pain at every movement?’

‘Well...’ Owen hesitated.

‘I fed him.’ Andrew said disgusted. ‘But only a few bites, it was too... weird.’

‘Allow me...’ I said, holding a sandwich in front of him.

‘I can do it myself.’ he protested. ‘I’m fine now.’

‘Ah, come on...’ I sighed, taking a bite of the sandwich I’d offered him to ease my own hunger. ‘It’s more fun this way.’

‘All right...’ he sighed. ‘Feed me.’

And I did, eagerly. He teasingly bit my finger when I put a grape in his mouth, causing me to giggle. Could it get any better?
