A/N: Woooo, first original story! This was up on my account a while back but it wasn't very good as I was really inexperienced. Also, Kaira's a sarcastic asshole. Be warned.

Another note is that her mouth is filthy. I don't swear this much normally but thought it would fit her character better. Feel free to mentally bleep them out. On with the story!
.............................

Beep. Beep. Beep.

The irritating sound of a heart monitor was the first thing Kaira registered when she awoke from her state of unconsciousness. Her limbs felt stiff, as though they hadn't been in used for a long time.

She did not open her eyes, instead choosing to examine her surroundings without alerting possible enemies that she was awake so they could start a classic evil Disney villain monologue.

Of course this decision wasn't at all impacted by the fact her eyelids felt like they had 30lbs weights attached to them.

Heart monitor: Check.

Uncomfortable bed: Double check.

Suffocating smell of disinfectant and stuff Kaira didn't even want to try and guess what it was : Checkmate.

All signs pointed to her being in a hospital somewhere.

If this were a game of chess, Kaira would've won with that fantastically obvious piece of logic. She didn't, however know where said hospital was or how, and why she was there in the first place. Scratch that, she didn't even know who she was.

Finally, Kaira opened her eyes. Doing so confirmed that yes, she was in a hospital. Bloody brilliant. That was when she noticed the nurse changing the weird plastic bag thing sticking out of her arm, what was it called? An O.P? No, an I.V. That was the name for the stupid thing and Oh God it itched like hell!

"Where am I?" her voice sounded hoarse and weak, even to her own ears.

The nurse looked over her with wide hazel eyes.

"You're in St. Olav's hospital. We found you floating in the river Nidelva about two months ago."

Kaira analysed the woman standing before her. Probably Scandinavian judging by the accent, and isn't the river Nidelva in Norway?

"What the bloody fuck was I doing in there?"

"I would appreciate it if you refrained using foul language Miss..." The nurse, -Carina judging by the name tag- said, with a questioning look at the girl before her.

"Kaira, it's Kaira." She said, wincing at the sharp pain that crackled to life between her eyes.

"Well, Kaira, do you have any information on how you managed to half drown yourself, break multiple ribs and sustain a serious head injury causing you to fall into a coma?"

"I don't know, Carina. Maybe you should try someone else." Kaira's eyes landed on the doctor striding towards them, a clipboard in hand. "Like him! He looks mildly intelligent! Don't bother the teenage girl who just awoke from a coma!"

The Doctor in question looked sympathetically at the nurse before dismissing her. "So, Kaira. How are you feeling?"

"Like I got run over by a truck."

The man scribbled something on a clipboard. "What is the last thing you remember?"

"Being annoyed by that bitchy nurse."

Sven sighed and rubbed his eyes in frustration.

"Before you awoke, I mean."

"Well Svenny-boy, should've made that clear shouldn't ya?"

Sven furrowed his brow in apparent confusion. "How do you know my name?"

Kaira smirked and rolled her eyes. "Duh, nametag. Here I thought you were clever."

The Doctor seemed to be losing his calm and collected composure fast. Kaira, on the other hand shut her eyes tightly in an attempt to shut out the bright light that was making her head pound with the force of a mallet. A spiked mallet.

"I can see I have a talent for pissing people off, am I correct?"

"You do seem to be rather argumentative. However, don't try and change the subject."

Kaira groaned and smacked her head weakly against the pillow. "Ah fuck, I was hoping you didn't notice that!"

She heard the faint sound of Sven taking another note on his clipboard. Probably "Patient is an asshole" Kaira thought grumpily.

"What do you remember last before your accident?"

Kaira winced in pain, letting out a small gasp. "I don't know." She muttered quietly, ignoring the feeling of nausea raging in her stomach and the constant pounding in her head and she just wanted to sleep, she was so tired and Oh My God it hurt!

"How old are you?"

Kaira tried to rack her brain for anything, anything, oh God please let me remember!

"I don't know. 15-16-ish? I DON'T KNOW!"

The last part came out in a shout that caused her throat to join the parade of "Let's make Kaira in as much pain as possible!"

Her breathing was now ragged, her heartbeat fast and crystalline tears streamed in salty rivers down her face. She couldn't breathe, it was all closing in, why couldn't she think? Why couldn't she remember?

Vaguely, she heard the yells of "Someone sedate her!" Before the pain in her head got unbearable and she let out an ear-splitting scream that caused her gasp for breath as her lungs seemed unable to work properly.

Drills pounded in her forehead as a white-hot knife seemed to dig between her eyes.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, amongst all the pain, she felt a sharp pain in her neck and her mind faded into blurry nothingness.

............................

Doctor Sven Olsen slumped back in his chair, sighing in relief. As annoying as Kaira was, he wouldn't wish the agony that seemed to rush through her overly skinny and pale frame on anyone.

Looking down at the clipboard patterned with all the stickers his daughter Linn had stuck on it, he looked at the notes on the top sheet.

Patient is malnutritioned.

What happened? The way she had looked when she was brought in was like she hadn't seen the light of day in months.

Patient is argumentative and seems to be uncomfortable with people.

Ah yes, he always seemed to get the difficult ones. But who made her that antisocial?

Patient seemed to be in great distress and required sedation.

Why though? What was she trying to remember?

Patient seems to have amnesia.
