"the chairman would like to see you now."

some people said that you'd be able to find out a person's personality just be looking at their choice of shoes. i never believed them, but now i think some parts of it are indeed true. a pair of dr. martens tapped against the wooden floorboard, the sound somehow pleasant to the ears as his pace was perfectly rhythmic. he's a music lover, most likely to have played an instrument in the past or still is playing.

yes, the shoe fits him no doubt, black newton boots, thin yellow stitches forms a perimeter around the shoe, almost like a warning to stay away. laces tied up tightly, a quiet one, he probably keeps to himself a lot. oh, he sure has his own style. slightly baggy jeans, the same shade as his black turtleneck shirt that was partially covered with a coffee coloured coat that reached his mid-thighs.

the secretary choked out a cough as he walked past her, his eye contact was captivating, almost intimidating as it felt like he was staring into her, but there was a flash of kindness as the corner of his lips went up by the tiniest fraction. finally, he returned his gaze back to the chairman, his aura simply overflowing by the time he reached the desk.

it was all quiet, except for the light humming of his table fan as the secretary mumbled an excuse before silently exiting the office, leaving the two grown men alone.

"i see you've made up your mind?" the chairman spoke with authority, merging his hands together and placing them on his table, strangely similar to a villain.

the other merely nodded, his small smile completely wiped off his face as if saying i had no other choice.

"you need the financial support, in other terms, you need me. your mother's in a grave condition thanks to a certain misdoing. that's why i'm offering you a deal, i'll handle the hospital fees and you'll get paid a good sum of money, all i ask in return is for you to perform a task for me." he emphasised on the certain, adding pressure on the word itself. he knows.

"what is it that you want me to do?" his eyebrows furrowed, frustration and anger in his voice as he clenched his fists, knuckles jutting out prominently. it was all he could do, be a pawn for money. he deserved it, after what he did, the way his younger siblings looked at him with shock, the youngest even bawling on the floor before getting shushed, the mature one shutting her up, afraid that it would be their turn.

"simple. there's this boy, jeon jungkook. i need you to befriend him and report to me about him on a weekly basis. i expect you to do a good job, no hiding of any information from me, at all." he hands him the envelope, mentioning that the secretary would explain more about the job.

"alright."

"great. rest assured, your mother will be properly taken care of. do not, under any circumstances, disobey my orders. is that clear?"

"yes." with a curt bow, he exited the building, silently cursing at the man who gets his filthy money from bad sides of the society.
