Not just a name
but a way of life
Speaking in a tongue
of French descent
yet still remain
unique in swampy grounds
Holding on to traditions
each year
as each generation
embraces the skill
required to tread where
some would tremble in fear
Magnificently terrifying
view of the lands
that begin to be seen
wherein lies all kinds of things
The alligators are quick
to hide when they
feel the water
trembling as motors cut through in waves.
Though terrifying and beautiful to behold;
bold strength knows no bounds
and dare not wrestle it to the ground
Birds that fly overhead,
taking in the view and searching for food.
