Imagine this, there's a twelve year old girl in an old, creepy, and way to dusty to even be remotely safe basement. She's not exactly supposed to be in that basement, and her face obviously shows it. Now, this isn't a horror novel, so she won't be jump scared by any psychopathic murderer with a chainsaw who's trying to take an inch off her height ( she is precisely 5'10. Yes, she is tall for her age) or anything. But, what this scared orphan is about to find is something way worse than being an inch shorter, way worse than having a murder stereotypically chase her through the basement, what she's about to find is something that will change her fate forever.
*Ok! I'm just gonna stop you right there. Just before you think 'wow, this girl is pretty gosh darn stupid', let me tell you something: I never meant to release the spirits! Curiosity just got the best of me! I thought it was just a stupid prank! It was a total accident! And also, I got myself into this mess by being SMART, thank you very much.*
Anyway, this smarty pants of a girl continued to explore the basement, even though her gut was telling her otherwise.
She looked in various places of the last floor of the half burnt, abandoned office building. She looked at the file cabinets, searching for a special number.
This orphan searched and searched, until she found the correct cabinet, cabinet 367.
In the cabinet was a red file.
(Your probably wondering how I found this sketchy red file. Well, it's a long story, so I'm just gonna tell you the part that got me here.
I found a napkin in the dumpster of an OLD, I mean close to ANCIENT diner. On it, it had spirally, messy, handwriting saying: 'Good job, little one. You have found our final clue. Now, go to the final place marked on the map, and you shall earn your reward.'
But there was more writing. Underneath the messy, in need of a writing class writing there was pretty, perfect cursive, reading:' My dearest, this gift we were able to give you is very important. We hope you enjoy it and we hope that this will make our choices we made years ago make sense to you. We love you.'
So I followed the note (and map) here.
The red file held a set of directions, written in fluent cursive.
1. Pull this file cabinet out, and open the door.
2. Chant " I release Lace the shower of friendship and Aquene the spreader of peace!"
3. Wait, and then chant " I also release Charis the spreader of kindness and trustworthiness!"
4. Then, three necklaces should appear. Arrange them in a circle.
5. Finally, chant "Finally, I summon Evin the" the last part is scratched off, and all that is left is a black blob.
6. A bracelet should appear, and add it to the circle.
7. Your gifts shall come out of the door, beloved. We hope you enjoy them.
The girl reads the set of directions, and ponders her options.
(See? I'm not stupid!)
After weighing the pros and cons, she moves the file cabinet (quite easy, if I do say so myself.), opens the door, (whoever crated this spooky scavenger hunt built and HID a secret closet BEHIND A FILE CABINET in an office building! One word: Creepy.) and starts to chant.
"I release Lace, the shower of friendship and Aquene the spreader of peace!"
Two necklaces appear. One has a cloud on it and the other has an Earth on it. The girl looks at them with amazement and grabs the jewelry. It's almost as if the necklaces slip through her fingers; as if the necklaces are both solid and made of sand. It's like they're not really......(hm, what's the word?) solid.
The girl stares at the necklaces, amazed at these oddities.
The girl pinches herself again to make sure she's not dreaming.
(I was obviously NOT dreaming!)
The girl re-thinks her decision, but decides that she's too deep into trouble now that the only thing she can do is finish what she started.
This girl takes a deep breath, waits, and continues: " I summon Charis, the spreader of kindness and trustworthiness!"
And, like the creepy note said, another necklace appeared, with a paint brush as the charm.
The girl picks up the necklace and examines it. Again, it's like it's solid, but also made of sand.
She shakes her head, dumbfounded (for once) and arranges the necklaces in a circle.
They all start to glow.
( Note; this was the scariest thing EVER. After seeing this I immediately changed my mind, no matter how deep in trouble I was, I decided getting in big trouble was better than DYING.)
So, the girl tried to get away, but a pulling feeling started in the pit of her stomach. She resisted it, trying to run away, but a gold light swept her up and pushed her back.
(I thought some words at that moment I probably shouldn't say when I was swept up.)
Anyway, the girl was swept back to the necklaces. She looked at the jewelry with dismay.
She sighed, and decided that she was never going to be able to leave the sketchy office if she didn't finish this creepy spell thing.
So she sighed, and then said:
"I summon Evin the..... Um, spirit of....uh, mystery?"
It seemed to have worked because a black cloud appeared, and a bracelet was placed in her hands.( Yes,by the dark cloud!) The bracelet had a moon charm on it.
The girl looked at the bracelet, wanting to throw it on the floor, but knowing if she resisted, something bad would probably happen.
(That black cloud looking pretty psychotic, ok?!)
This way to freaked out girl placed the bracelet in the middle of the circle of necklaces, making sure to (or at least trying to) bolt to the other side of the room.
Amazingly, the girl wasn't forced to stay in one place and was halfway across that moldy basement in SECONDS.
She turned around to see if anything happened, and was met with a sight most likely out of a sci-fi (AKA nerd) movie.
The closet had both 'fogs',(yea, that's what I'll call them) swirling around in them. The light and dark lights swirled around each other, both in harmony, but separate.
The girl stared in udder dismay, her eyes widened, as her mouth fell at gape.
There was then a blinding light.
And that is when 'they' came out of the portal that connected our two worlds. That was when I met the spirits, the ones who are to protect and care for me. That's when my life changed.I didn't know it then, but I was about to go on an adventure that made my WHOLE life make sense. I was about to take my first step to being found.
