I recommend NOT posting the chapter unless you have reviewed it several times and made sure that everything is 100% grammatically correct. Make sure that everything flows nicely. Also, this might just be me, but I dislike when writers say they're going to update and then they don't. This is a big no-no in the industry and it upsets your readers. I understand it is hard to keep on track, but try to find a time that is good for you and stick with it. Do not rush yourself, it makes you look unprofessional.

Another thing, keep the Author's Notes to a limit. They can interrupt the reader's mood and may make them lose interest. Author's Notes are great, but when they are seven paragraphs long, you need to get to the point. I often find myself skipping them to get back to the story. 

The third thing, this is the key to writing: DETAIL! DETAIL! DETAIL! This makes the story come alive, and people LOVE it. For an example, go to this story and read the first and second chapters:

Lastly, Cliffhangers. If you use them, they may drive people crazy... I'm for them though. It attracts more people if you do them correctly.
