This goes along the same guidelines of the profile picture. Choose a fancy and/or welcoming background that complements your photo well. I chose a background that had the same mellow feel as my picture, and I made sure the colors contrasted and blended correctly. You should try to make the reader feel compelled to go further. Please, do not put a dark profile picture up with a dark background. It makes the reader feel overwhelmed. If you like doing this, go ahead, this is only my opinion. I recommend light, bouncy colors that will embrace the reader's attention and put them in a welcoming mood. People like to feel happy, so I recommend happy colors.
Also, this is very important: never come online upset. You may lash out on someone who writes a bad comment about your book, or be rude to someone. No one likes being trashed on the internet, so only come online when you're in a good mood. Again, this is my opinion and you're free to do whatever you wish to do.
