Have you ever been told, that like a flower, you grow into something beautiful?

I live in a small town, where flowers are more than just beautiful to look at, where every house has a flower garden. My name is Blossom. Crazy, right? Being named after a flower, but that's the thing. This town is all about flowers. It smells like flowers, and the people here are named after them also.

Nothing really exciting happens here, all I see out my bedroom window are people out in their gardens, watering their flowers all the time. It almost puts me to sleep. ''Blossom!'' My moms voice was loud as she called me, and  I quickly went downstairs to see what she was yelling about. As I got to the last step of the stairs,  I could see that she had a watering can in her hand and immediately I knew why she was upset with me.

"You see...I kinda forgot about that.'' She let out a sigh. ''Honestly, Blossom. You know what you have to do when you come home from School. This is pretty much the only important job that I have for you to do, and you didn't do it.'' I glanced over at the Blossom in the violet vase. ''It looks fine to me..'' She gives me a worried glance. ''You know what happens when you don't water it..''

I roll my eyes at her. ''It dies?  Mom, do you seriously think that if it dies, I die? This town is completely crazy for beliving in stories like that. I may be named after this flower, but it does not mean that if it dies...,that my life is over for me too...that's just outrag-'' She interrupts me. ''I don't know, Blossom, but It's your job to keep it alive and healthy. Do you not remeber those times when it hasn't been watered and you suddenly got very ill? And do you not remember how when it was finally watered, how you were suddenly back in good health as if you were never sick to begin with?''

I didn't want to hear anymore of this, so I grabbed the watering can and started to water the Blossom. ''Like a stupid flower knows my fate anyways...'' I wasn't paying attention to how much water I was giving it until my mom snatched it away from me. ''Don't over water it!'' she snaps at me. She was acting a bit crazy to me about this flower and I ended up backing up a bit away from her. ''Sorry, mom..''

Suddenly her anger went away and she looked ashamed. ''I'm sorry, dear. I didn't mean to snap at you.'' Looking to her, I could tell that she really was sorry, so I gave her a quick hug.

"Is it okay if I go see Rose today?'' Rose was my best friend in this small little town. She's the only fun person I know that lives here. ''Yes, of course you can.'' Heading out the door before she can change her mind, I start going to her house.

She's always hanging out in her garden, so that's where I go first, but instantly I freeze when I see something in the middle of her garden. It was a white sheet and it was clearly covering something. I didn't even have to remove it, because I saw an arm sticking out from under it and I see a bracelet that was around the wrist of the arm.

My heart stopped and I fell to the ground, shaking. It belongs to my best friend, Rose. Our friendship bracelet. I couldn't even bring myself to remove the sheet to see her. I already knew it was her, looking above where her head was at, I see a Rose just laying on the ground. It looked like it was cut from the ground and it was all dried up.

I cried that night, enough tears to fill up a watering can to the top. My best friend was gone and everyone knew but me. My mom knew I didn't believe the story, everyone knew that I didn't. They just left my friend there to be seen by me, so that I could finally come into the realization that this was the reality of not taking care of your flower. If it dies, you die.

I never missed a day watering my Blossom now. I looked over at Rose's garden from time to time, hoping to see my friend there, waving at me, but I never do.

I was starting to notice something though. Where her body was, there was a Rose starting to grow there, my heart felt happy to see it growing there, It really made me wonder if it was my friend coming back, but as a flower.

I never missed a day watering it either. I think that maybe these people that I see out in their gardens are not just watering any kind of flowers now, but I beleived it was their loved ones that have passed away, coming back as flowers and who knows...maybe they will someday come back to us....as Zombies, maybe?

Well, that's a whole other story if that were to happen...
