Chapter #8 The Truth

"You smell so good Amanda.....it's like a drug to me..." Ray admitted taking a step towards me.

I stepped back, tripping over Ray's tombstone and falling down. My fear had returned. Ray continued to step forward as I began crawling backwards on the ground. This wasn't him.

"Ray....?" I whimpered in horror.

"I'm so sorry Amanda....I don't want to feed on you, but I can't control myself anymore....I'm so hungry....it doesn't hurt. I promise. You don't feel a thing." Ray explained.

"No!" I yelled and sprang to my feet.

Not giving Ray a backward glance I began running away from him. Towards the front of the cemetary. I didn't look back but I could hear the panting of Ray behind me. He was running after me. I made it to the gates and began forcing myself through when Ray grabbed my sleeve.
"Gotcha babe!" He exclaimed.

I screamed. This wasn't Ray! His blood lust had taken over him! Thinking fast I slipped out of my jacket, that was all he had ahold of, and continued sprinting down the street. I had just passed the school when I slammed into someone. It was Karen!

"Amanda!" She greeted, surprised from me running into her.

"Karen! You've got to help me! Ray, he's...." I started but I stopped suddenly remembering.....Karen is one of them.....

I widened my eyes at her. Without saying a word I pushed past her and ran.

"Amanda!!!!!" Karen called.

I didn't care. She wasn't any different. I kept running until I made it all the way home. Bolting into my house I slammed the front door closed and locked it. Leaning against it gasping for air.

"Amanda! Honey is everything ok?" Mom asked alarmed.

"What's going on?" Dad questioned, just as concerned.

Petey barked in alert.

"It's Ray he's....." I started, trying for the right words.

"He's what honey? What's wrong?" Mom demanded.

Suddenly there was banging on the front door. I screamed, thinking it was Ray. It wasn't.

"Guys let me in! Let me in!" Josh begged from outside, sounding terrified.

Quickly I unlocked the door and let Josh in, just in time to see Ray running up the front steps. I slammed the door in his face and with super speed locked it again. He banged against it hard with his fists.

"Can someone please tell me what's going on?" Mom asked.

"This towns overrun with dead people!" Josh exclaimed.

"Josh, this isn't a very funny joke." Dad lectured.

"No he's not lying! Ray....he's one of them! Karen and her parents too! I found their gravestones in the cemetary!" I explained.

"They're all coming! They're gonna eat us!" Josh yelled.

"Josh how did you find out?!" I asked.

"I was over my friend George's house with some others. We were playing a round of baseball and I went to slide into home and I skinned my knee. It started bleeding and that's when all of their eyes went red and their skin got all weird...they started saying how hungry they were and how they needed to feed. I ran and they all started chasing me! I ran into others on the way here too! A contruction worker, a cop, and even the Mayor is dead!" Josh said.

"This is ridiculous!" Mom cried.

Suddenly the door broke down. Ray had succeeded in busting it open.

"Oh but it's very true Mrs. Benson." He added, smirking wickedly.

Petey was barking wildly as people started piling in after Ray. Karen and her parents, Josh's baseball friends, a construction worker, a cop, and Mayor Spangler. All of their eyes red and their skin pale and sickly.

"What is this?" Dad interrogated.

"Feeding time Mr. Benson...." Agnes Somerset spoke.

"We're starving..." One of Josh's friends said.

"We need you." The construction worker stated.

"Your fresh blood is our only solace. Please don't be afraid." Karen begged.

"Run!!" Josh screamed.

We all began running up the stairs, me being the last one up began throwing things at Ray and the other undead residents as they followed. I threw a vase right at Ray and he held up his arm in defense, it shattered to pieces, not leaving a scratch on him. Terrified I quit that plan and focused on running, Petey barking up a storm.

We made it up to the attic. This is where Ray and his parents were eaten..... we backed up as the undead filed into the room with us.

We were trapped.
