Catch flame

And gradually turn to ash before my eyes.

 But that was impossible.

Even if I wrote a list

And had my mom or dad set it on fire,

I would never get the satisfaction

 Of seeing it burn.

 Surprisingly,

There was one part of the school day

 That I actually enjoyed.

 Recess.

I got to sit on the bench

And leave the shouts of the kids on the playground,

 As my fingers skimmed over

The slightly raised patterns of dots,

Embossed in the paper.

Feverishly turning page,

 After page,

 After page.

Itching for Nancy Drew to reveal the culprit

Of the crime she was investigating.

 Breathless over the fact that

Harry Potter was an inch away

From defeating whatever evil he needed to.

 Every day,

 The bench dipped

From the weight of an unknown person

 Sitting beside me.

 They never introduced themselves,

And neither did I.

We both went about our own business,

 Up to when the bell,

 Signalling the end of my

 Fifteen minutes of paradise,

 Rang.

This routine went on for a few months.

 Until one day,

A few minutes after my grade had been let outside into the courtyard,

The mystery person tapped me on the shoulder.

They asked me what I was reading

 And what it was about.

 I told them the title

 But then explained

That if they were so keen on knowing the contents of my book,

 They should read it themselves.

 The person laughed

 And told me

 They might just do that.

 Unfortunately,

 Our conversation was cut off

 By that pesky bell.

I did manage to catch the name

Of the first person in that school

Who decided to be relatively nice to me,

 Olivia.

She managed to catch mine as well,

Before having to go back to class.

 For some reason,

I felt that our short discussion,

 However unimportant it was,

 Would turn into something,

 Something good.

A single ray of golden sun shining through

 The rainclouds obstructing it,

 A burst of bright colour

In an otherwise black and white painting.

Something positive was to come of this,

 It had to.

And I was right.

A/N: Hi loves! I'm in a bit of a rush so I don't have much to say except that I hope you enjoyed this chap and please vote and comment your opinions (constructive criticism is welcome as usual).

Oh and by the way, what do you guys think about the new character I just introduced? :)

Lots of love,
