If Only

The not date

I called Honey Lemon and she happily came over to babysit.

Jack and I went to a small cafe, not too far from my place. We ordered and sat down.

"Talk." I demanded. Jack took a deep breath then looked me in the eyes.

"When I woke up I realized we forgot to use...protection and I was scared. I wasn't ready to be a father."

"You think I was ready to be a mother?"

"Not the point. Let me talk please. Now I was panicked and grabbed my phone to called my dad. I got up and went to the bathroom so I wouldn't wake you. But I dropped my phone in the toilet and it completely shorted. So I went home in a panic."

"You could have at least written a note!" I snapped angrily.

"I know. I know. I handled the situation poorly but I know that now. And I'm so sorry that I left you.  When I got home, I told my dad what happened and he got angry. He shipped me off to a college as far away from home as he could find. I desperately wanted you back but he cut off all communications for me. Elsa I promise I still love you." He finished explaining and I just stared blankly. "I already missed nine years of her life. Please don't make me miss anymore." He grabbed my hand and pleaded.

"Jack...I just...how can I trust you again? Especially after what happened after the accident." I sighed. The way he spoke to me and Anna. It just wasn't okay. Not to mention he tried to hurt Merida. "You're toxic. And I don't want you around her."

"Elsa please. I'm trying. I've always wanted kids." Tears welled in his eyes.

"You didn't 10 years ago." I scoffed.

"Elsa please." He was crying now. I sighed and studied him.

"Fine. But this" I pointed between the two of us. "Isn't happening. You can stay for Elaines sake. And you won't tell her that you are her father."

"Els-"

"Those are my terms. And if you don't want to agree to them then take me to court and I'll make sure you have no rights." His eyes widened and he gulped.

"Okay." We went back home and let Honey leave so we could spend some time with Elaine.
