"Ok. It's done!", my best friend Nicki grinned, "Your CV is ready to be sent!"
"Just, give me a look", I said quickly before she took any actions. My roommate rolled her eyes and let me see the screen of her laptop.
I know, I should be thankful for help instead of being suspicious, but knowing Nicki and her weird sense of humor, it's better to check twice.
With tense I looked at my smiling face that took almost half of the page. It was selfy I took last summer at the beach. My grey eyes were the same color with the sunless sky and bloody red lipstick was the only colorful spot on my pale face. Photo was nice and rather mystical, but surely not for business purpose.
"Maybe it is better to use another photo?", I frowned.
"Which one?"
"The one I have on my driver license, we can-"
"Oh, no. No way! Are you kidding me?", her mad voice made me winced, "Amy, you are applying for a job at Lux. Nobody would let that boring face work at the most popular magazine."
"Ok", I sighed and continued reading, "My four years of experience as personal assistant and five years of experience as-"
I stopped and gazed at my friend who was sipping at her coffee with total innocent look.
"What?" she asked bitting her lip and trying not to laugh as my facial expression was more talkative then me.
"Nicki, what did you write here? I am only twenty one, I can't have four or five years of experience."
"Relax. Everyone is lying in their CV. Besides I did not mentioned your age", she retorted.
"But diploma in business administration? Two years of working as a junior manager at "Coffee&Cakes"?"
"But it's true. You work there!"
"As a waitress!", I exclaimed and gasped with shock when my eyes saw my personal traits stated in CV "trustful, optimistic, obedient and easy learning virgin... Virgin?!"
I was interrupted by my worst best friend's laugh. Without saying a word I just deleted that line. I knew she would do something like that. Unbelievable. She almost send it like that.
"Amy, I-I'm sorry", it was still hard for her to talk. She tried to make apologetic look, but unstoppable gigging ruined all her efforts.
"To be a virgin is not something to be shy about", I said with a bit of offense in my voice.
"Yeah. It is something that you can be proud of. That is why I put it in your CV," Nicki started laughing again and I could not help but join her in giggling.
"Ok. Now let's be serious" , I said knowing that with Nicki it is impossible, "and remove all that nonsense."
"No, wait! You want to be hired to the biggest magazine in New York as a personal assistant to CEO and use this as a chance to become the most famous photographer in fifty two states-"
"One-state glory would be enough"
"And you seriously believe that they will take a young girl with no work experience and no college degree ?"
I sighed. She is right. What am I dreaming about? I left my native town and my poor family hoping to become a professional photographer. But all I have after living here in New York is small-salary work as a waitress and big dream to enter NY Film Academy one day. After I will have enough money to cover tuition fee. Let's be realistic. I stuck in nowhere.
"Hey", I felt comforting pat on my shoulder, "don't be sad and don't take this too serious. Just press the button, send it and forget. If they call it's good, if they don't who cares-"
"Nicki! What have you done?"
"Ooops", she peered at the screen with light green line "You CV was successfully sent",
"At least you removed the line about virgin", she chuckled, bitting her lip and I let out nervous laugh.
