Two days, six hours, 23 minutes.

That's how long until I am finally sixteen.

It's kinda like a milestone isn't it, the transition from childhood to womanhood. The age where I'm finally able to be more free and become my own responsibility.

Maybe I'm thinking too into this and becoming sixteen is just another birthday but this is what happens when I shower.

Overthinking, imagining and plotting.

God I sound like a crazy devil child but that's probably because I am. Note the sarcasm.

Smiling to myself I finish off my shower and reluctantly step onto the bath mat, immediately missing the hot running water as cold air surrounds me. Draping a towel around my body I open the bathroom door and walk across the hall to my bedroom, my feet padding on the carpet floor.

Glancing at my alarm clock my eyes turn from those of mere content to absolute panic.

6:38am

"CRAP!" I cry as the realisation sets in that I am completely, utterly and most annoyingly late.

"I'm late, I'm late, I'm late." I murmur to myself whilst frantically rummaging through my wardrobe, trying and might I add failing to acquire any suitable work clothes. I was supposed to be at the cafe for half six, I just hope my boss isn't too mad or in one of her awful moods. My head starts pounding with stress and I feel myself begin to sweat.

"For gods sake I just took a bloody shower!"

Come to think of it, me taking an overly long time dwelling over my most important life events in the shower was probably the reason I'm now in a state of finding socks that actually match.

But honestly, it should be illegal to be up this early anyway us teens need our beauty sleep, not that I think about that when I stay up till all hours scrolling absent mindedly through social media but that's besides the point.

A few dabs of some under eye concealer, a swipe of mascara and a grab of an apple later, I'm out the door and on my way to town towards the small quirky cafe I spend my mornings in.
The roads are quiet as most people are only just waking up so I am able to get to the cafe quick enough.

*******

Ding!

The cafe door bell chimes as I bustle into its cosy atmosphere. Only two customers occupied its small vicinity and I smiled politely at each before heading towards the back.

"Good morning Agnes" I say timidly watching her reaction closely as she sifts through files.

"Nice of you to show up Kendall." She peers at me from above her glasses and I gulp in anxiety.

"I'm so sorry I don't know what happened I promise it won't happen again"

"That's the second time you have been late this week Kendall is better not happen again I have a lot of work to be getting on with instead of serving your customers.

"Yes Agnes" I murmur quietly scurrying away to the front of the cafe again.

Time goes slowly as we hardly get any customers in the morning. The two customers have been and gone and I have literally nothing to do. Great.

Fiddling absent mindedly with some sugar packets I gaze at the clock. I have to be at school in twenty minutes as I prefer to do my shift before school than after.

Lost in my own thoughts I almost didn't notice when the cafe doors chimed.

Ding

The sound echoes around the room, quickly putting the sugars back I feel the presence of a new customer as they enter the cafe and make their way to the counter. Getting up from my uncomfortable position of perching on the ledge of another counter I tilt my head up and look into the eyes of a young man.

He's quite young, not that much older than me I would guess, with soft brown hair and gorgeous eyes that I couldn't even begin to explain. The colour of dark chocolate with flecks of hazelnut and gold that seemed to shimmer in the warm light.

My eyes avert to his lips as they hardly move an inch as he breaths one single word that sends shivers down my spine.

"Hi."
