I am the girl who doesn't really stand out. I'm good at school, yes, but is that something that matters to anyone in high school? Mostly no. I'm not exceptionally grand at sports and extracurricular activities are pretty much out of the question. If you want someone to win a gold medal and make everyone proud, I am not your girl. This has been a known fact to everyone around me for many, many years.
I bake a lot. My friends love special occasions and holidays because they always get cupcakes from me. There never has to be a reason to receive cookies during school. Am I the most amazing baker in the world? Definitely not. The most amazing baker at my school? Still no. That would be my great friend, Kennedy Humphrey. She is the definition of amazing. The sweet, caring girl who makes delicious sweets and adds a sense of happy to your life. Don't get me wrong, I love her. She is practically my sister. We've been great friends since kindergarten, so going on ten years now.
Photography. Yep, I do that too. My mom and my best friend are photographers. I have always been in front of the camera, so I decided to try standing on the other side sometimes. Has anyone ever willingly wanted to let me do their pictures for anything? Nuh uh. Am I even on yearbook at school? No, but I am working on it. My mother gave up teaching me the basics and let me try it on my own. Bad idea. My fantastic best friend, Michael Rutledge, has more patience with me than anyone could possibly have with any other person. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I am very needy at times and he knows how to handle that. It's always weird when he checks out my latest pictures because he's kind of my boss which is also weird. Shout out to me for being too awkward to let him do his job.
I can write. Woo, that's gonna make everyone want to be my friend. I do love doing it though. Poetry, stories, even essays? I can write it, which makes English teachers like me. I've had two poems published in my lifetime. That was a pretty awesome accomplishment for me. I have finally stopped correcting all of the spelling and grammatical errors my friends make; that drove them crazy, but oh well. Besides English, I am great at math. I, along with many of my peers, took Algebra II and Geometry as a freshman. Just to get this straight, I am a major nerd. School is literally my entire life. I need the routines and the consistency of it all.
I am friends with a lot of people. Many on the football team and the cheer squad; if you're on a sports team at my school, chances are we are friends or have been. I am friends with tons of the outstandingly smart kids and those of grades six through up into college. I know people. I have at least a couple friends from every group of people, including those who are teachers. Do I talk to half of these people outside of school? No, not really. Would they all show up to the hospital if I ended up getting hit by a bus? Probably not. But overall, I have some of the best friends a girl could ever ask for.
I am the friend who will literally be there for a person no matter the situation. Used to be my best friend but our friendship crashed and burned? I'd still be there when your boyfriend decided to break your heart. Just became friends about two weeks ago? I'll be there to listen to family problems all night long. Complete stranger? You can shoot me a text about how you and your best friend are having struggles. My main goal in life is to be a friend to everyone. To be the person who people can put their full trust in. To be the girl who lets people know that no matter the problem at hand, that they are never truly alone. And I guess that's why I get hurt so much. Because I expect everyone else in the world to be the same way.
I am Abigail Andrews, in case you were wondering. And now you know me. Plain Jane ordinary me.
