The ride to school was short from where Dan lived, so it was no surprise when the bus halted in front of the school. Everyone filed out of the bus, then moved into the school. Dan quickly separated himself from Pj, saving both of them from the awkward small talk Pj would try to start.
Dan got a few binders from his locker before sauntering down to his class, which happens to be physics. He hated the subject for more reasons then one, every electrical shock that went through his body made it look like he have been taking something and it messes with his heart, causing him to bolt down to the nurse to be rebooted. He should really just get a stupid doctors note at this point.
Dan sat down at his usual desk and ignored all the teenagers throwing paper and talking to each other across the room with unimportant banter that can clearly be talked about another time.
When the teacher enters through the door with a new kid behind her the whole class grows quiet. "Class, this is your new classmate. Phil, would you like to introduce yourself?"
"Um, yeah, sure. I'm Phil, Phil Lester, and I like music, video games, and what ever else teenage boys like I guess." The new kid is obviously nervous. His black hair is swept across his face to the right, a hair doesn't seem out of place which tells Dan he spend a lot of time on it and probably fixes it throughout the day, and judging from his ginger eyebrows, it's obviously not naturally black. His blue eyes probably bring the most attention to him. They make him stand out in the sea of brown and hazel eyes that dominate the classroom and most of the school. A button up shirt hugs his body and his black jeans are ripped at the knees but not enough to make him look like the stereotypical 'bad boy'.
"Save image." Dan mumbles to himself. "Open new file and save image to it, name file Phil Lester." The image of the boy is saved into the file just as he wished. "Remind me to look up Phil Lester when I am in my room."
"Okay Phil, you can sit there next to Daniel." The boy looks around and Dan points to the empty chair beside him to help the poor boy out. The new kid sigh gratefully and makes his way to his seat.
"Thanks so much." Phil says with a smile.
"Whatever. I'm Dan, Dan Howell. Miss calls me Daniel and I don't appreciate that so don't call me that." Dan warns.
"Um okay." Phil says, taken aback by Dan's snark remark.
"I'm also not the friendliest person so don't except to get buddy buddy with me." Phil nods and Dan turns his attention back to the teacher.
They don't talk for the rest of class, and throughout the day, Dan notices something. He has Phil is most of his classes, and since Dan usually has no one to sit next to him Mr New Kid took the empty chair. It was aggravating to say the least. But as long as he didn't bother Dan it would be fine.
Lunch came sooner than usual today, and as he walked down the halls he ignored glare after glare that students sent his way. This is usually what happens, occasionally he's called out by people who have a grudge against him, today was one of those days.
"Hey Dan." He turns around towards the voice.
"Hello Gabe, I don't think we have anything to talk about." Dan says simply with a shrug.
"Your kidding right your such an-"
"Ass, piece of crap, son of a whatever you choose, squirrel assassin, Donald Trump. If you want to find something that will actually make me feel bad go to hell and find some kind of curse." Dan shrugs and turns around, only to be grabbed by the shoulder and turned back around.
"How do you know about me and Robert?" Gabe growls at Dan.
"I believe you call him 'Robby' and 'babe' and 'sweetheart' and, my personal favorite, dad-" Gabe shoves his hand over Dan's mouth before he can finish.
"Yeah yeah I get it shut your pie hole. How did you find out?" Gabe whispers quietly.
"Private messages is an understatement." Dan says simply before walking away from Gabe who just stands in the middle of the hallway as students pass by.
No one else tries to stop Dan as he walks down the hall, they all know him, and it's very rare someone will try and start conversation with him. Especially when it's the new kid. "Dan!" He had made it halfway to the library when he heard his name.
"Yes Phil?" Dan turns towards the new kid.
"I was, um, wondering of I could sit at your table at lunch? Since I, uhm, don't know anyone else." He runs his foot across the ground nervously. Dan lets out a sigh.
"Listen Phil, I don't have any friends. I don't sit at a table, I eat alone in the library with the librarian. However I used to have friends and I think you'd be better off trying to make friends with them than me. So come on." Dan sighs as he walks in the opposite direction of the library.
Phil thanks him more time than Dan would like as he follows behind. When he stops apologizing he starts asking question after question about the school and about Dan. "Do you ever shut up?" Dan finally snaps when they make it to the cafeteria.
"Oh gosh I'm so sorry I um, I'm just really nervous and um yeah." Phil slouches and looks down flat the ground.
"Whatever. You see those two brunettes? The goat haired one and the curly haired one?" Phil nods as Dan points to Chris and Pj. "They're my old friends. Tell them Dan said you'd get along." He gives Phil a small nudge to tell him to go on.
"You aren't coming with me?" Phil asks.
"Their my old friends." Dan repeats.
"Old friends? Why aren't you friends now?"
"If you want to meet friends you do go asking people those kinds of questions." Dan warns as he turns away from Phil. "I'm out, good luck."
"Oh wait Dan!" Phil calls.
"What?" Dan turns back to him.
"Thank you." The new kid says sincerely
"Um, your welcome." Dan turns around and walks away.
