"I hate you!" She tells him as he moves up the stairs.
"Love you to." When Dan had first gotten his disease, Marita was only six. She didn't quite understand what was going on at the time, and would rub Dan's bald head in confusion as she would ask, 'Are you growing old? You look like grandpa.' Dan would laugh but never answer her question. When it started to get really bad, his parents had to have 'the talk' with her that her brother might have to be sent away to a place called heaven, forever. The next day when she visited him in the hospital she cried and hugged him.
"What's wrong angel?" Dan whispered softly as he returned her hug.
"M-Mummy and Daddy said that y-you might leave f-f-forever and go to heaven. But I don't want you to leave, why c-can't you stay with us? Don't you like u-us?" She cried, hugging him tightly.
Dan froze, he knew his condition was bad, but he had no idea that is was so bad his parents had to have 'the talk' with his younger sister.
"Rita, Rita sweetheart listen to me." He cupped her face and looked her in her eyes that were the same colour as his. "I don't want to leave you. But sometimes when people get so sick, their soul can't live there anymore and the soul has to leave the body. But once they leave they can't come back. It's not my choice Rita. I love you, mum, and dad very very much. But I'm also very very sick." Now it's his time to cry as he looks at his young sister. She's so beautiful and creative, she has such a life ahead of her and Dan doesn't want to miss a single moment. "But even if I do leave my body, I'll watch over you. You won't be able to see me, but I'll be there. If you're having a bad day and something goes right, it's me. If you're not sure on a question on a test and guess then when the test comes back the answer is right, it's me. When your favorite song comes on the radio, it's me. All I ask is that you remember me for the brother I was before I became like this. Okay Rita?"
She nods her head and cries loudly. "I promise. I love you big brother." He's lets go of her face and she hugs him tightly, Dan does the same.
"Are you going to try and stay on earth?" She whispers.
"I will do everything I can."
He loved her a lot and would do anything for his sister. He was his old self around her, but once he left her side the new Dan came back into play. He wouldn't let his sister see. He didn't want her to know who his brother really was, it would break her little heart. Dan had harmed her enough with his sickness, he didn't harm her any more with her brother not being who he was supposed to be.
Dan went into his room and opened up his laptop. His fingers moved across the keys as he checks all of his social media accounts. He stumbles across a post about himself by one of his fellow classmates. A small smirk appears on his face as he reads the comment. Hey Howell, how's it feel having no friends? Dan chuckles. That wasn't even a good insult.
He cracks his knuckles before typing faster than most people would believe possible. Tab after tab appears and information fills his brain. Passwords to his accounts, information on his texts and voicemails, direct messages and so on.
"Save information to the file on 'Gabe DeCino'." Dan says out loud. All the information in his head then shrinks into a tiny folder in his brain that he can open later when needed. Hey DeCino, what's it like to date Robert Pattinson? Oh wait, no one was supposed to know about that. He replies to Gabe's comment and a few seconds later he's been blocked. Dan smiles to himself, another day, another person to be sent running with their tail between their legs.
"Danny!" His sister runs into his room and he deletes all of his tabs before quickly pressing the off button.
"Rita! I love you but please knock." Dan says with a sigh.
