She spoke to her to make sure she was still alive."Hey, are you awake?"
Elena shifted in her sleeping bag thinking about what kind of life she could of had before everything happened. She started to dream of a clear, blue sky, flowers popping with color, tall skyscrapers, and best of all, people. Not just people, but people that aren't afraid to leave their shelters, people that aren't afraid of everyone they meet.
"What happened?" Elena shot up from her sleeping bag from a loud noise she heard. "Brooke, is everything okay?"
Brooke, still packing her things answered, "Yes, everything is fine. Did you get a good night's sleep?"
Elena was confused on what was happening. They just made camp not even a day ago and they were leaving? She was starting to like it here. They made camp close to the river, and had an abandoned convenient store right across from them. To Elena what more could you ask for.
"We are leaving so soon? We just made camp and I was starting to like it here." Elena said whining.
"Yes, we are leaving. Pack your things. Just take what you can carry. Now!"
Brooke was the older of the two sisters and the more responsible one.
Elena was the younger one and liked to goof off but at serious times she knew when not to play. They were running from something but they didn't know what. All they knew was that if someone stayed somewhere too long, that someone dies. They were also running towards something.
A city they heard about that was magnificent. It was called the City of Light and it had everything you dreamed of. Actual houses, roads, mountains, places that you could go just to hang out and places you could go the get healed by people who care, and schools and people. And not just people, people that walked around and aren't afraid of anything.
"Okay," Elena said frustrated and went to her sleeping bag and gathered everything she owned, which wasn't much, and walked back to Brooke. "Here, this is everything. Can we go now?"
Brooke looked confused, "Why so eager to leave. I thought you wanted to stay."
Elena responded, "I do, but if we are going to leave better leave sooner than later. Don't want to die like Asia did."
Asia was Elena and Brooke's best friend. They were camping together one night when the monster came in the middle of the night and killed Asia in her sleep. Elena and Brooke found out that morning of when they saw their friend dead in her sleeping bag. They think it was poison since there was no bruises or scratches on Asia's corpse.
"Okay then, let's get going," Brooke said. They were walking deeper into the woods when they heard something rattle behind them.
"It's an animal," Elena shouted, raising her pistol. She whipped around, heart thumping. Brooke pulled out hers and her hazel eyes widened in anxiety.
"Yeah," Brooke said, looking out. Just then, a boy came from the thick vegetation.
"Don't hurt me," he said, raising both hands. "I'm just like you."
