Dean Winchester didn't consider himself to be an athletic guy. Yeah, maybe he went on short hikes and did the occasional sit-up, but he was nowhere near active enough to consider himself physically fit. Though you'd never be able to tell by looking at him. Dean stood in front of his bedroom mirror and adjusted his shirt for the third time. He felt underdressed and unimpressive in his t-shirt and jeans and was hoping desperately for his date to call and cancel.
He stood back and took a final glance at his plain outfit before he huffed and sat on the edge of his bed. He checked his watch briefly before getting comfortable. 6:35 pm. Dean figured he had about 10 minutes before he had to leave. 10 minutes to get there and 5 to find parking leaves me with 10 minutes to calm the fuck down, he thought. He looked over at the dog sleeping gently in the corner and smiled.
"Benny, are you ready for your dinner?" he called and the dog perked its ears up, "Let's go for a walk first because I gotta go soon, bud." The dog slowly stretched himself out before prancing out of the room behind Dean.
After a quick walk to the corner and back, Dean tossed Benny's leash to the side and poured 2 cups of kibble into his bowl. 6:40 pm. With the last 5 minutes he had, Dean went around his house making sure all the lights and taps were off and made sure to say goodbye to his pup and give him a little kiss on his forehead.
Dean picked his keys from the bowl at the front and popped open the door. He locked it quickly and made his way to his ride. The door of the Impala squeaked as it cracked open and Dean sunk down into the seat.
The ride over to the coffee shop was shorter than expected and the parking lot was relatively empty. By the time Dean strolled up to the front door of the spot, it was only 6:55. Dean walked up to the counter and ordered a small, black coffee for himself and reserved himself a table. He sat in silence while he waited for his date to show up.
And he continued to wait. He checked his watch and realized that he had been sitting alone with an empty cup for 45 minutes. Dean ordered another coffee and decided to humor himself by waiting some more. There was no way Dean Winchester got stood up. It was 9 o'clock by the time Dean shoved himself out of the coffee shop in annoyance.
Across the street, the bright neon lights of a bar sign flickered. Dean made an impulse decision to grab a drink at the bar in an attempt to numb the sting of rejection. The dingy air rushed out as Dean pulled the door open. The lights were obviously dimmed to create some form of an atmosphere and to distract from the desperate faces of those surrounding him. He slowly made his way over to the bar and snagged himself a bar stool near the end of the line. He purposely put an empty chair in between him and the nearest person; he couldn't bother chatting with people tonight. He pulled out his phone and texted his brother, Sam, about his date; more specifically, the lack thereof.
It wasn't five minutes before someone sat next to him. The brunette flicked her hair and turned her shoulders to get a closer look at Dean. She had been laughing with her friend but stopped when she saw Dean leaning over the bar, on his phone, with no drink in sight.
"You know, they generally frown upon taking a seat when you don't buy anything," she said, propping her elbow on the bar and resting her head on her hand. It took Dean a second to realize she had been talking to him, but when he did he perked up a little bit.
"Yeah, I know. I swear I'm not doing it on purpose. The bartender just hasn't come by here yet," Dean scoffed, his earlier frustration coming back into the light. The brunette smiled.
"I figured as much. It's pretty busy over there," she noted, "Name's Amy."
"Dean," he smiled, happy to have someone interested in conversation.
"So, Dean, what brings you to this small, little bar?" She cocked her head to the right and dropped her arm down, still leaving her elbow on the edge of the bar. "You look like big city folk."
"I, uhm, actually-" Dean started while looking around the bar. He tried to continue but stumbled on his words when he saw the bartender walking towards him. They locked eyes and stared at each other as the bartender leaned over towards him.
"Hello, what can I get you tonight?" The bartender asked, smiling wide.
