Liliana was crying. She didn't want to leave her baby girl. But what she and Michael had done was illegal, so she had to. She placed a soft kiss on her baby girl's head, and turned away, going back to Aphrodite. She had just disappeared around the corner, when a young girl, 5 or 6, opened the door. She looked at the baby on her front step.

Then she yelled into the house, "Julie, we got another one!"

Another girl, older than the first,, came out and picked up the baby. Written in neat handwriting, was the name Kyra.

Seven years later

Kyra watched as Lukas threw Julie around. He lifted her up as if she was a rag doll. He threw her down. Julie laid still, not moving and taking weak breaths. Lukas rose fro the final blow. Kyra couldn't stop herself, she ran forward.

"Stop! Lukas, she's done! She's done." Kyra said, looking at the older boy.

"Who's gonna stop me? You?" He said rudely.

"Yeah, me." She said defiantly.

Lukas laughed. He came closer to her, squeezing his huge hands into fists. Kyra looked on with a calm expression, watching him come ever closer. As soon as he got close enough, she ran behind him, using all her strength to jump onto his shoulders. She got up. She squeezed until he fell to the ground, not dead, but close. The whole crowd of Street Rats stepped back. Then they started to yell her street name, 'Nyx.'

Kyra looked around, bewildered. They only chanted the street names to the leaders. Then she realized. She was the new leader.

Four years later

Kyra moved faster than a cat, running on the beam while Katie was yelling at her to go faster, be quieter. Kyra made it to the end of the beam, panting, and looked back at the obstacle course.

"Good job. That's enough for the day," Katie said, watching the younger girl jump down.

Kyra smiled. She looked at Katie, golden eyes shining. "How'd I do?"

"Good. You're ready to become the leader. And an assassin." Katie said, smiling.
