Mama and Papa were arguing again

Mama and Papa were arguing again. Even though they knew I had school in the morning, they still found a reason to yell.

I clutched my stuffed elephant closer to my chest and shut my eyes really tight hoping to find some sort of sleep, but it wasn't coming with Papa's booming voice ringing from upstairs. All this talk about "money" and "affairs", it didn't make any sense to me. I would go upstairs to ask him to quiet down, but last time it got me in trouble.

Over time I found different ways to handle the situation rather than try to fix it. So with a sigh, I tossed my covers over and slid out of bed carrying Eddie the Elephant with me as I left my room. I've been told an eight-year-old shouldn't have such toys anymore, but it was the only thing that really brought me comfort throughout the nights. That and a certain person.

I wasn't sure if she was still here, but when I heard the familiar singing I knew I had my answer.

"In Dublin's fair city,
where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Cryin', 'Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!'"
