"I'm sorry-"

"No don't be. I can barely remember my past anyways. And besides, I like my home here. Bettie and Terry are good guardians and most of the people around these parts are really nice. I'm sure you'll like it here. It just might take a little while..." I nodded, grateful for Rhiannon's reassurance. Once again, her lips curled up into a smile, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "Well Jasey Owen, I ought to get back to bed. Tomorrow will be a big day."

"A big day?" I echoed.

"Why yes, everyone is going to want to see what you are capable of. Don't worry, it'll be fun." She exclaimed, yet she still kept a rather quiet voice. I nodded again, completely unfazed by the idea of showing off my "talent." I was fascinated by fire. I liked it. And I liked that I was capable of using it whenever I pleased. "Now you sure you're going to be alright?"

"Yes I'll be fine. Thank you, Rhiannon." I answered, and I truly meant it. With one last sigh she stood up, placing her hands on her hips and grinning widely at me.

"I have a feeling you and I will be great friends, Jasey." And with that, she left in the same way she had came.

"Rise and shine, miss Jasey!"

I groaned, flipping over to face Bettie, just as she was flinging my curtains open. Snapping my eyes shut as fast as I could, I retrieved a pillow and threw it over my head, blocking out any light that was left. A faint chuckle was heard, followed by barks of laughter. What's so funny, I thought. Slowly, I slid the pillow down to where only my eyes could be seen, and watched as Bettie looked down on me, hands placed firmly on her hips. For being somewhat older, Bettie appeared to have a lot of spunk. Maybe that came with being in a freak show...

"Miss Jasey, you have slept long enough. Time to get your fanny up and start the day!" She exclaimed, yanking the covers off of my body in one swift motion. Reluctantly I sat up, rubbing my eyes tiredly. After I had talked to Rhiannon, sleeping went a lot better. But I still didn't get enough. I glanced at the clock. 9:26. Had I really slept in that late? "Now get yourself dressed and come downstairs when you're finished. I saved some from breakfast for ya. Everyone else ate hours ago!" With a clap of her hands and a spin on her heels, she was out of my room. I sat in my bed for a few moments longer, contemplating how real my new life seemed. I had expected to wake up back at my old house and in my old room. I'm not sure if I wanted it all to be a dream, or if I expected it all to be a dream. Nonetheless, I slowly got up and dressed, just as Bettie had told me too. Opening one of my suitcases, I retrieved some dark jeans and a read and black, long sleeved, plaid shirt. After brushing my teeth and running a comb through my hair, I headed down the stairs and into the kitchen where Bettie was just setting my food on the table. I stared in awe at the plate, filled with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fruit.

"Hi fire girl!"

I turned to the door, where Rhiannon stood, looking well rested and chipper. "Good morning." She said, taking a seat at the kitchen table. I did as well, right in front of the massive plate of food.

"Fine." I replied, not sure if I should speak about our little chat last night or not. So instead, I offered her a small smile, which she returned.

"Margy, want some more breakfast darlin'? There's plenty left over."

Rhiannon huffed, no doubt displeased with the fact that Bettie had called her Margy. "No thank you, Bettie. I can't wait to see what you're going to do Jasey!"

"Set something on fire?" I replied, taking the first bite of my bacon. So good. I had to wonder for a moment if Bettie had ever been a professional chief. Everything I had tasted so far was simply exquisite. Rhiannon giggled while tapping her fingers on the table excitedly. I couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm to see me set fire. And in truth, it was getting be excited too. Every time I had created fire back home, I got in some type of trouble for it. Now, being a part of the freak show, setting fire was going to be known as my gift.

All at once, Terry burst through the door, his eyes darting around nervously until he settled on me. "Jasey, time to go."

"Not now, Terry. I just set food in front of her." Bettie shouted from the kitchen.

"Well hurry up girl! I've got everybody all gathered 'round." Instantly I began shoving the delicious food down my throat, wishing I could take my time and savor each bite. But apparently not...

"You done yet?" Terry asked impatiently.

"Terry, give her a few min-"

"I'm done!" I cut in, dabbing my mouth with a napkin and rising to my feet. Rhiannon did the same, and without warning she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door. Bettie grabbed her sweater from the coat hanger and then we were off, to who knows where.

"Alright Jasey Owen," Terry began, a smirk playing on his lips. "Let's see what you can do."
