"What's this?" Rose asks. I blush as I scratch the nape of my neck. This isn't something I'm very open about. I just started it this reincarnation.
"Well, when you live infinitely you have a bit of extra time on your hands... Y'know?"
"So you start the piano?" she asks increduloudly.
"I'm actually pretty good!" I counter.
"Play something," she demands.
"As you wish," I reply, taking a step toward the ivory keys.
I sit down, Rose following suit. I place my hands on the piano. I take a deep breath and make them dance. Up and down, up and down. Fur Elise is the piece I've chosen. It's not my best, but it's my favorite. I play it louder and louder from memory.
Rose stares at my hands. She's speechless. That's a first.
I continue playing. Key by key, keeping my head in the playing, yet having all the passion flowing through her. I watch my fingers: pressing the keys and then moving to the next note. Smoothly.
I stop to think. Why? I can't help but remember the last time I played. For... Her. I look at an empty spot on the floral wallpaper. Her choice.
"Doctor..." Rose says, "I..."
I shake myself back to conscienceness. "Rose Tyler, speechless?" I say, "Well, this, my dear companion, is an ocassion."
"Oi! That's rude... Hey," she says.
"Hey?" I reply.
"Something's wrong," she plainly states.
"You're not ready."
"Alright. It's your opinion," she retorts, plopping down on the couch. I go to sit next to her. She sighs, looking me in the eye, "I left my mother... Along with everything I ever knew for you. For us. I can handle more than you think."
"I know. I'm still positive you're not ready. When you become a time lady, you'll know. You'll see everything I see. You, Rose Tyler, will see all that ever was. You'll see all that is. And all that ever could be. Rose Tyler, you'll be like me," I explain. It's so hard in human words. In Galifreyan, it'd be easy. So easy.
"Okay."
"Okay? That's all: no sassy remarks?" I ask.
"No sassy remarks," she replies with a smile. Rose Tyler leans her head on my shoulder. I blink. Twice. Then, I feel her grab my hand. It's so.. right. That's the only way of describing it.
The only words I can find are, "I love you." In my peripheral vision I see her eyes widen, scared but hopeful, I think.
"I love you too, Doctor."
