You never really get to know someone. People always have secrets they want to keep, some lie they go off on. No one ever really knows who you are because you can change in a second. I never had that realization on people. That is, until I did.
"Amanda" I heard a familliar voice call from only a few feet down the hall. It was my best friend Grace Wheeler. Her short, average body stood out from the small crowd of taller students. She finally caught up with me, getting to me as fast as her little legs could take her. I stayed put, leaning against my locker waiting for her to get to me. "Good morning" she greeted me with a warm smile. "Hey" I said as I stuck my arms out to give Grace a morning hug. She accepted my hug and embraced me.
" Daimen West is staring at you again" Grace whispered to me as she opened her locker and glanced to her left. " Yeah well, he's been checking me out since the 8th grade" The thing about Daimen West was as far as 8th grade he's 'supposedly' been in love with me. We never spoke and got to know each other all that well, we had very few classes together, and he didn't seem to have many friends. I was different. People knew me. I was known for always being a nice, confident, independant student. I got A and B honor roll, and I do good for my community. We were from two different worlds, with two different personalties. Why would someone like Daimen West want anything to do with someone like me? The first period bell broke my thoughts about Daimen and I quickly jumped back into reality. "Come on, let's get going" Grace said as I grabbed my books quickly out of my locker.
We walked past Daimen on the way to first period, math, one of my not so favorite subjects. The morning went by slowly till it got to around 5th period English/Drama. Grace and I took our seats in the mid-center of the room. Daimen was in that class as well. He took his seat in the back corner of the room. No one was around him, as usual. He often looked lonely, but he seemed to be fine with it. Turning my attention back to the class, the teacher Mr. Ross was telling a student to pass out the novels Romeo and Juliet to the entire class. "I want you all to read chapters 1-5, because we are going to perform our annual Winter play and I need a cast. Tommorow during class I will assign you boy girl partners and which ever couple performs the best will be our Romeo and Juliet. The bell rang signaling for lunch and I got up to leave the room, but I didn't leave as qickly as expected.
I got up from my chair, Grace following behind me grabbing my stuff. "I'll meet up with you during lunch, okay?" I told Grace as I turned to glance at her. "See you soon" she answered. I turned back around to see where I was going when I smacked into someone in front of me. It was Daimen. Go figure. His books fell out of his hands and scattered on the floor. "I'm so sorry, are you okay?" I asked as I bent down to help him pick his books up from the floor. "Don't worry about it, this happens all the time" he responded "It's almost as if to everyone I'm invisible" he said sadly. He partially smiled to himself. He had a cute crooked smile. "I'm sure that's not true" I said trying to comfort him. I had almost forgotten that I still had his books in my hand "Oh here" I said handing him his books. "Thanks" he said softly. Things felt a little awkward. Thankfully, that was the end of the 'convestaion' and he stalked off to the cafeteria. "What was that?" Grace asked. "Huh?" I asked forgetting she was still near me "Oh nothing, he just dropped his books and I returned them to him, is that a crime?" I questioned. "No I've just never seen him keep up talking to someone for that long" Grace commented. "Come on, lets get to lunch, I'm starving" I said pulling her along down the hallway and to the cafeteria.
