"Y/N... I'm-"

"No.... There's no point in communicating with someone that doesn't understand the nature of innovation." You spoke quietly, staring blankly at Bucky.

"Look, let me explain-"

"Just go back to watching baseball and listening to Jazz on your vintage record player with Mr Self-righteous over there, cause you don't belong in this time! It makes so much sense that your afraid of vicissitude..." You fumed. "This could save your life... This could save our life. I-I just hope you can eventually understand." You hastily turned around, quickly treading towards the exit. You took one last glance at Bucky, his torn and remorseful face etched in your memories forever.

-------:::::-------

Hours turned into days and days turned into weeks as you sat, noting every observation and detail the cell exhibited. Hours upon hours of documentation eventually turned into unproven hypothesises that piled onto your inbuilt frustration. Although things around seemed to be quiet and bland, it could probably relate to the absence of Tony. You didn't have a clue of his whereabouts or what he was doing but ever since he had been away, days had gone slower.

You looked into one of the cells again, purposely injecting it with deadly bacteria. Moments later, the cell changed its form, engulfing the bacteria in its whole. Frowning, you observed eagerly at the cell. As you changed the magnification of the microscope, you noticed blebs appearing at the edge of it; knowing that it could be performing some sort of necrosis or apoptosis, you watched on earnestly. Suddenly as if nothing had happened, the blebs disappeared as it was absorbed back into the cytoplasm of the cell.

"What the fuck did i just witness?" You muttered silently to yourself, leaning on the back of your chair in bewilderment. You stayed there for about 5 minutes, staring aimlessly at the microscope. As if the gears of your head started working again, you scurried out of your chair to look for your book of notes.

"Day 42. There has been some sort of alteration with the cell as it resumed contact with an unknown foreign prokaryote." You mumbled, hastily writing down your notes in your scrapbook. "The cell has not been proven to be a prokaryotic organism yet it does not fit into the category of a eukaryote. Although it does show signs of it being almost a combination of these two classifications. It is able to adapt to any environment it is put in, changing its structural and physiological elements to survive. Finally, no form of necrosis or apoptosis can occur in the cell, almost rending it as immortal." You continued, scribbling down messy notes before closing your notebook.

As you were to entranced by your finding, you hadn't noticed someone entering your lab.

"Um.. Hey, Y/N. What are you up to?" A voice suddenly spoke up, jerking you away from your reverie. You briefly whipped your head towards the voice, noticing an uncomfortable Bucky loitering around the door.

"What do you think i'm up to?" You sneered, the anger and harshness still evident in your voice.

"I just wanted to apologise for the week before.. I didn't mean to make you angry at me." Bucky shifted from side to side as he watched you intently for a response. "It's just..... It's just that i care about you. Everyone does. We don't want to see you get hurt or in pain." He continued.

You pursed your lips into a thin line as you turn around, focusing on the microscope and the organism instead of him.

"Look... All i'm trying to say is that, i'm sorry and that i hope you can forgive me. Maybe just forget that the whole ordeal ever happened?"

You turned around in your chair, this time it was your turn to stare him down. He shifted again under your gaze as a small frown appeared on his forehead.
