"Y/N?"

"Y/N... Are you even listening?"

"Y/N!" A voice spoke aloud, jerking you awake from your few seconds of napping. You hastily looked up, an unimpressed Sam in front of you.

"Seriously, Y/N? In a public place like this?" He sighed, crossing his arms as he looked outside the window. "Sorry, Sam. I just... I just have trouble sleeping." You pursed your lips, remembering all those nights that kept you awake.

All the nights where you were cooped up in your lab, testing and experimenting for days or even nights on end. It went up to the point where your health started to deteriorate from your lack of sleep and nutrition. Sam had noticed you were in an unhealthy state, prompting him to take you out for lunch. Seemingly, you weren't in the mood to eat or do anything remotely social. He figured it would help you get some relaxation but the only thing you cared about was getting enough sleep.

"Y/N... I can't stress this enough, but you need to stop. You're going to hurt yourself, or even worse." Sam pleaded, his large brown eyes full of concern and worry. The cup of coffee in front of you was becoming cold.

The steam radiating off it begun to subside. Picking up the cup, you noticed the small dark speckles in the coffee. The hues of dark brown intertwining with the soft white as it circled around like an orbit in space. You took a small spoon mixing the warm colours together, bringing the cup close to your lips. The aroma of bitterness and intensity settled in your senses. The hint of warmth hitting your skin, as the warm and bitter fluid went down your throat. A small tinge of sugar was prickling your taste buds, a sigh of content escaped your lips.

"Feeling better?" Sam asked, a small radiant smile on his face. He picked his coffee, slowly sipping it, his eyes trained on the hustling city outside. "Way better. I don't feel like i'm dying outside.. Can't say internally though." You took another sip of your coffee following Sam's direction of sight.

You never wondered why Sam was so intrigued by the city. With its' sky high skyscrapers and the never-ending traffic, you never found anything special about it. Sure, there were good pizza and kebab restaurants but other than that, the city was full of corrupted corporate bosses with their scantily clad secretaries or drugged up alcoholics that blamed the government for their mishaps.

"What do you even see in this place?"

"I don't know.... I grew up here. Raised here. Born here. This place feels like home to me." Sam replied in a low tone. His eyes were twinkling at the skyscrapers above, a hint of a smile on his soft features.

"Harlem, huh?"

Sam turned away from the window, glancing at his empty coffee cup."Yeah... Harlem... Did you know Harlem is known as one of the major neighbourhoods that have a large population of african americans?"

"Really, Sam? I didn't know that." You said in a monotone voice, resting your head on your arm.

"Did you also know tha-"
