[ AHEM... I AM TIRED OF SEEING THE SAME SHIT, AND THIS IS MY RANT ABOUT IT, AND MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS. ] COMMENT WHAT YOU THINK, TOO.
starting with the bat family (excluding bruce);
DICK G. :| girl (emphasizing girl) is ALWAYS super smart and badass, but will cry if touched by any male that isn't the honorable dick grayson. she is usually an orphan, and just happens to be spotted by batman and robin.
JASON T. :| badass (again) female vigilante falls for our badass male vigilante. girl has abusive parents and becomes an assassin, suddenly killing people. therefore, jay is like "marry me?" (???). never really pre-red hood fanfics, mostly after his death.
TIM D. :| wait?? tim has fanfics?? wHat?? anyways, probably an orphan, probably super smart, probably falls in love and happiness everywhere (you know, after fighting the bad guy, of course).
DAMIAN W. :| aSSASIN OC. LOTS OF DAMIAN BEING HEARTLESS EXCEPT FOR FEELINGS TOWARDS THE GIRL, WHICH ARE MUTUAL (unless it's mar'i, but).
STEPH B. :| ..... (only with tim)
CASS C. :| who?
BARBARA G. :| fanfics with dick, usually.
HELENA W. :| ..........
not even gonna continue.
• here's my point; there is quite a struggle with fanfiction being original, with a plot not overly used and characters unique enough to remember. there are lots of things i want to point out that hopefully influence a more open storyline.
— it's okay to change the sexuality of characters, it's what writing is for. get creative. make tim gay for your male oc, or make them bi. it's your story, who cares what others think?
— ah, the rarity of female fanfics. seriously, go gay if you don't feel comfortable writing a male oc. but the ladies need some love that isn't canon.
— they aren't heroes all the time. they are human beings (or not – but that doesn't matter), and their original identities are great for exploring. instead of nightwing, try just writing one about dick. write so their other costumed persona isn't the main point, but the personality of the character behind the mask.
— IT'S OKAY FOR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS TO BE NORMAL PEOPLE AND NOT HEROES OR VILLAINS. THAT DOES NOT MAKE THEM BORING!! IT MAKES THEM SPECIAL.
— not all people earn love interests, babes. that's just life. i'd kill for a fanfiction that is just best friend based, without the mushy stuff.
get weird with it, my dudes. it may not be as popular as some, but the satisfaction of this crazy beauty you've created will uphold that. you do you, and don't let others crush that.
