Legends from the beginning of the world. Stories scattered through time from the dawn of the earth until now. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of royalties and peasants, forgetting so easily that we are a creation of mud and dust, a byproduct, a forgotten past. A princess, born from a royal family was strong, wise, and kind, but she was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness within a human can quickly change to kindness to darkness, or create greed for wealth; humans adapt so quickly... But will they transform again after turning to darkness?
A princess with a smaller, more honest soul, aroused hope. It's true that a simple spark can ignite hope and breathe fire into weary hearts. The ability to derive strength from hope is undoubtedly mankind's greatest attribute. However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, but even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die.
Which is why the feeling of knowing the princess's time and effort has been for nothing. Her own soldier has failed her. Everything she built, will be torn down before her very eyes. Her faith in mankind is not misplaced. When banded together, unified by a common enemy, it is a noticeable threat. But divide them, place doubt into their minds, and the princess's power she once had will wash away. She won't realize it at first; like everyone they cling to their fading hope. A princess who is not happy with her life being a princess. All she wanted was to have a commoner's life. To be free. Free of being her mother's puppet, and it all began when her world turned upside down.
I saw Gabriella running through the hallway outside the room while I was studying for how to properly walk with poise, but I saw her arm hiding her eyes, her cheeks are beaten red, and drops of liquid were falling from her cheeks, and she breathes as if the air is too thick to swallow. She tripped on her gown and fell onto her knees. She was at the point where she could no longer control her breath, and choked on the air as she inhaled, like a child trying to hold back tears - desperately sucking in breaths between sobs.
My mentor slapped my hand with her whip. "FOCUS!" she said as she closed the door where I couldn't see Gabriella from where I stood.
My normally calm and pleasant demeanor slowly changed and my face contorted in an all - consuming anger; my nostrils flaring, my eyes flashing and closing into slits, my mouth quivering and drooling, slurring words that were unintelligible and spewing into space like a volcano releasing its pent up emotions into the darkness. My hands closed into fists and I crouched forward, daring my mentor to repeat once more, the words that had torn my mother's mirror into fragments, that had dashed all my expectations of 'happily ever after'. I didn't wait! My blood boiled in rage. The rage that followed was brought on by the sudden realization that I could leave. I shoved her once for good measure before breaking into a run toward the door. I still had the advantage of adrenaline and I never once stopped running. As soon as I opened the door, I saw Gabriella looking at me with watery eyes and messed up hair.
"Irene!" She exclaimed, shock and happiness written all over her face.
The first drop of tear was about to fall. She blinked it away.
"Is something wrong?" I asked. She turned her head from me and pressed a finger on her lashes. "Something got in my eye."
I didn't say another word. Another tear formed in her eyes, and this time she let it roll down her cheek. I barely saw it anyway. I gently placed my hand on her back, and for a moment, everything was okay.
"What happened?" I said as she sobbed as I looked at her sympathetically.
"I don't know what to do," she said while wailing.
"It will be okay, I mean you always have a shoulder to cry on, silly Gab."
She looked at me and tilted her head like a confused dog. "I do? Who?" she mumbled with a spark of hope lighting in her voice.
