You arrive at the double doors where the guests are waiting on the other side. John is standing outside and his eyes widen when he sees you.
"You look great. Sherlock is going to freak. Well, on the inside of course," he says as Mary loops her arm through his.
"Thanks. I'm glad I don't look as anxious as I feel," you reply just as the music starts.
Mary and John smile in reassurance before turning around. The embroidered doors swing open and they walk forward as you stay back and prepare for your entrance as if going into battle.
You keep your eyes closed for a few moments before breathing deeply and beginning to walk forward. You look ahead, and when you see Sherlock standing at the alter in a perfectly tailored tuxedo, your heart flutters in your chest like never before.
You watch the smile only reserved for you grace his lips as his eyes lock on yours. It's as if everything else in the room melts away and it's only the two of you. You float across the ground with your dress flowing around you.
Every step you get closer and closer to whatever future is waiting for you. Maybe nothing will even change, but it's still as if a beautiful new beginning is waiting to be explored.
You take your last step and turn toward the man you're about to marry and look deep into those enchanting eyes that capture your heart. You pass your bouquet to Mary and take Sherlock's hands in yours.
The officiant begins speaking and you tune him out as you and Sherlock silently communicate with each other through the way you blink your eyes to the gentle rubbing of thumbs on each other's skin. You exchange rings and the officiant continues.
"(Y/N) (M/N) (L/N), do you take William Sherlock Scott Holmes to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love, honor, and cherish, in sickness and in health, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, until death do you part?"
"I do," you say without hesitation.
"And do you, William Sherlock Scott Holmes, take (Y/N) (M/N) (L/N) to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love, honor, and cherish, in sickness and in health, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, until death do you part?"
"I do," Sherlock says.
"I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," the officiant finishes.
Sherlock leans down and briefly kisses your lips as the guests stand and clap. Sherlock guides you back down the aisle and out the doors as the guests soon follow suit. The two of you stand outside the dining room as the they go in.
"Come on, guys," Mary says.
"We'll be there in a minute," Sherlock replies.
Mary nods and enters the room while closing the doors behind her.
"Okay, the car with our bags is waiting outside and we're driving straight to the airport where Mycroft's private jet is waiting," Sherlock says quickly as if deducing on a case.
"Right now?" you say as he starts dragging you toward the exit of the mansion.
"I know you don't want all of this hassle, so I had Mycroft arrange everything earlier. We have about four minutes and thirty-two seconds before someone realizes we're gone."
You laugh and start running alongside your new husband as you leave the mansion and get to the black SUV in the driveway. Sherlock opens the door for you and helps you up before going to the driver's side. Sherlock speeds out of the driveway and down the road.
"Did we really just ditch our own wedding?" you chuckle.
"Yeah, weddings aren't really our thing," he replies.
It takes twenty minutes to get to the airport where some guys are waiting to take your luggage on the plane. You both change in the bedroom and go out to take your seats across from each other.
"We're finally married," you say with a wide smile.
"Finally, indeed, Mrs. Holmes," Sherlock replies with his own goofy grin.
Your eyes soften and you lean forward to intertwine your hands with his. "You know, I never thought I'd get married. It seemed too... normal. My life has been crazy for so long and the idea of finding someone that I would actually want to tie myself to sounded insane." You look into Sherlock's eyes.
"Then you, Sherlock Holmes, came into my life and made me realize that the crazy and insane were possible. You made those ideas seem like heaven because it was all with you. When I'm with you, I feel like a new person, a better person.
"When I'm not with you, I feel like maybe it's all been a dream and when I try to find you again, you'll have just been an illusion. I feel like I automatically go back to the solitary person I was before we met and that kind of scares me because I was so alone, or maybe I'm scared because you mean more to me than any other person. You are everything I think about, everything I need, and everything I want."
You pause as you swallow back the lump in your throat. "I didn't plan it, but you're the best thing that's ever happened to me."
You see the tears that have gathered in Sherlock's own eyes and he engulfs you in a hug. You bury your face in the crook of his neck as he move you to sit across his lap.
Sherlock suddenly begins speaking. "Growing up, I never understood how people could fall in love, how they could spend so much time together and still wish they had more. But then we met, started becoming friends, then I started falling for you, I realized I was always thinking of you, and I began to wonder how long you'd been on my mind, then it occurred to me. Since I met you, you've never left.
"And suddenly I knew what all those stupid love songs and stories meant. I understood how two people could always be in each other's presence. Because when I'm with you, I feel more like me. I feel more human, a human that wants to love and protect you.
"In all truth, I didn't like who I was before I met you. I was sad and arrogant and reckless. You make me want to remember that I have something to live for. I fell in love with you because you loved me when I couldn't love myself.
"Ever since we met, it's been like one big deduction. It was a million tiny, little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together... and I knew it. I promise I will always love you because you're the only person that has ever made me feel this way."
By this point, you're both shedding tears and holding each other as if one of you may disappear if you don't. Neither of you may be able to express your love in front of others, but they just know. By the way you gaze into each other's eyes then blankly stare into anyone else's, by the flirtatious nature you show on cases, and even by the way you stand so closely at all times.
Love is weird and dangerous and scary, but it's also wonderful. If there's one thing to learn, it's this: find someone who knows you're not perfect, but treats you as if you are. Someone who's biggest fear is losing you. Someone who's not afraid to admit they miss you. Find someone who loves you for who you are because you are worth everything and so much more.
