"Lefties are more likely to be on extreme poles of the intelligence scale"
Handedness & Topic
HANDEDNESS & WRITING:
In western countries we use latin alphabets & script used in which we write from left to right which is usually considered easier to write for a right-hander as it is easier to avoid the smudging of words already written. It is often difficult for a left hander to acquire neat & clear handwriting style, and in few places still now bad handwriting leads to disciplinary measures. In India many places bad handwriting leads to disciplinary measures students are often punished badly. They are even not given deserved marks for bad handwriting. Society makes people to have feelings of shame and even creates a situation where there was huge reduction in employment opportunities. However, changing attitudes, the advent of the non-smudging ball-point pen and the disuse of quills and fountain pens with nibs, has made left-handed writing a more practical proposition in recent years. In order to write left-to-right, many left-handers adopt an awkward, and sometimes painful styles of writing for example, "crab hand" or "hook style" of writing with a severely bent wrist, and they may keep paper in an extravagant angle. However, perhaps contrary to public perception, studies have indicated that actually only about 30% of left-handers (as well as 3% of right-handers) adopt the hooked writing position. There does not appear to be any natural writing direction. For example proto-cuneiform and Egyptian hieroglyphics, from which most of other Western scripts later developed (including the so-called Roman or Latin script most Europeans and Americans use today), could be written either left-to-right or right-to-left. In the course time of history we started to write from left to write and this is no way related to handedness it is purely because of historical factors, because still there are few scripts which write from right to left.
Modular school desks or chairs with the writing rest on the right-hand side cause serious problems for left-handed writers, particularly in tests which have strictly limited time, and they can lead to back problems and poor performance. Many left-handers also complain of difficulty in using a standard computer keyboard, largely due to the location of the number pad, arrow keys, etc, on the right hand side. Arguably, though, there is actually some advantage to left-handers in using the standard QWERTY keyboard: overall, 56% of the keystrokes typically made when touch-typing are made with the left hand, and over 3,000 words in English can be typed using the left hand only, as compared to only 300 using the right hand.
Even in the relatively free societies of North America and Western Europe, there have been deliberate and sometimes brutal attempts to suppress left-handed writing and impose conformity in the education system, particularly in the 18th and 19th Century. This has included such practices as tying a child's left hand behind his chair or corporal punishment for anyone caught writing with the left hand. But, what is less well-known, such discriminatory practices and attitudes against left-handers have also persisted well into the 20th Century, especially in Catholic schools. In catholic schools left handed writing was completely opposed as a result many students faced many problems. In 1970, right-handed writing was compulsory in Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia and most Iron Curtain countries.
SWITCHING THE HAND:
Children who switch their writing hands thereby risk some interference with their early development, switching handedness results in an over-loading of the non-dominant half of the brain, and an associated under-loading of the other half. Stammering (stuttering) and bed-wetting, can also happen, although a more common result is poor academic performance and a debilitating loss of self-esteem. Memory and concentration disorders and emotional problems can also occur, and it is not uncommon for "switched right-handers" ,some cases they have difficulty remembering which side is left and which is right. There are many places still left hand writing is not accepted (though officially no such rule is mentioned). The parents of left hand children often deliberately make the children switch their hand by all the means. In India the right hand is called "Seedha haath" which means the "correct hand", many of the rituals are only performed using the right hand and usage of left hand is strictly not allowed. Giving and taking things should also be done using right hand only according to the superstitions of the people. King George VI of England was a famous stammerer , is often assumed to have been a natural left-hander forced to write with his right, although there is actually no compelling reason to impute such a cause, and stammering may develop due to any number of other genetic and environmental factors. But the risk of getting it is clearly there if one switches his or her hand.
HANDEDNESS & FIELD OF MUSIC:
Many musical instruments like violin, guitars & trumpets create many problems for left handers. There can be custom made instruments separately for left handers but the market of such ready made instruments is very small and the ordered equipments are costly, for example custom built piano and guitar are very rare and even costly because they are complex to built. they are hard to learn and one doesn't get those teachers, so many left handers use right handed instruments and now they excel in those instruments. As we know this use of non dominant hand in tasks like music actually makes the connections between hemispheres of brains stronger thus improves thier creativity. But it happened that many left-handed people do not complain about stringed instruments because the left hand which performs the fingering, chords, etc(guitar) actually has the more difficult job, requiring most the dexterity. In the same way, it is often claimed that a disproportionate number of talented singer-songwriters are left-handed. We already know that left handers are creative so this is an another example for it.
