"Sometimes you meet someone, and it's so clear that the two of you on some level belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand one another or you're in love, or you're partners in crime. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere under the strangest circumstances. And they help you feel alive. I don't know if that helps me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something."

Eloise woke up to ths sound of her alarm clock ringing loudly. She groggily reached over and turned it off. After laying for a while longer, she sighed, and sat up, getting out of bed.

The brunette walked to her restroom, looking at herself in the mirror. She scrunched up her hair, frowning before noticed something on her pinky finger. Eloise let go of her hair and brought her fingers to her view.

It was red string.

How did that get there? She wondered, feeling creeped out, she lived alone and she didn't have any red string in her house, let alone string in general.

Eloise tried to take it off, but it seemed glued to her finger. After a couple of minutes, she gave up and realized the string made a long trail. Her main question was...

Where was the end of it?

Eloise got herself dressed and went out into the chilly autumn air, deciding to follow the string trail. However, no matter how much she walked, it seemed as if the string never visibly decreased, more as if it just looked shorter and shorter. She was determined to get to the bottom of the red string.

She soon noticed that the trail was shortening rapidly. The brunette quicken her pace, her eyes laid directly on the string.

"Hey Eloise!"

She looked up, seeing Maria standing at the front of the library, waving and smiling. Eloise gave her a small smile and walked towards her.

She suddenly froze when she saw the end of the string wrapped around Maria's pinkie.

Maria looked puzzled and glanced at her own hand, then glancing back at Eloise, "Um, you alright Eloise?"

"Maria, the string.." Eloise trailed off, earning another puzzled look from Maria.

"String? I don't have any string on me, do you want string?" The red head blinked.

Eloise stared at the girl, who looked completely dumbfounded. She inhaled and exhaled heavily, deciding to drop the subject.

"Nothing, I'm just tired," She sighed and slunched her back.

"Well if your that tired, we can ditch the library and go somewhere else, like to a coffee shop or something, ooh I know a really good one in town, we can walk there!" Maria babbled cheerfully.

Eloise looked back up at her and smiled, "Sure, I could go for coffee."

"Haha yay! C'mon, lets get going, I think I have a twenty on me," The red haired girl spoke and started walking ahead of Eloise.

The whole time they walked, Maria babbled on and on, and for a person with a preference for being alone, not once did Eloise think she was annoying. The only two thoughts that were in her head were, one: how did the red string get there? And two: Is it reasonable to go to a cafe with someone you barely met the day before?
