Ruby smiled as she played with her dolls. She was currently acting like the knight in shinning armor, saving the princess who was being captured.

"Ha! Take that bad guys!" Ruby cried out as her mother appeared in her doorway. Her mother had a white cloak, shoulder-length reddish black hair. Her name was Summer Rose.

She chuckled at her daughter and squatted to her seven year old. "Ruby, you shouldn't always play with your toys, make yourself some friends or you'll end up lonely." She said.

Ruby shook her head in annoyance. "Friends take your sisters. Look at Yang, she doesn't play with me anymore. She keeps playing with her 'cooler' friends." Ruby finished. Summer's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

Her daughter's vocabulary sure was growing.

"Come here Ruby. Let's go plant some roses." Summer picked Ruby up and carried her to backyard. Ruby giggled and squealed, she loved planting roses and picking them.

But before that could happen, Summer's scroll ringed, she put Ruby down and answered.

"What do you want Malin?" She mentally hissed at the name. She walked to the next room to prevent Ruby from hearing their conversation.

"I know you don't like me but, there has been a breach in... Sati Salem." His voice paralyzed her. Fear crawled through her skin as Summer's suspicion was confirmed.

She would have to return to a place she vowed never to return.

"I-I have to g-go Malin." Summer choked out as she hung up and went to check up on Ruby.

Sure enough, her husband had come from work, hugging Ruby and tickling her. Summer's eyes watered at the sight.

'I wish I could be there for you, when you grow up Ruby.' She thought as she wiped her tears and approached them.

"Hey honey!" She said as Ruby was talking his ear off, but he didn't mind. "And I defeated the bad guys, then the princess gave me a kiss in return!" Taiyang laughed at his 'daughter's' adventure.

"She did hu?" Taiyang looked at his wife and smiled.

He leaned in and kissed her.

But it didn't feel right.

It never did, but they did it for Yang and Ruby, to have a normal childhood. Or as normal as possible.

Summer shoved those thoughts away as she heard Ruby giggle.

"Yang calls this sexy." Ruby said, catching both her parents off guard. Taiyang's face flushed red in embarrassment. "Go easy on her sweetie, she's young." Summer said.

"Yang!" Tai yelled as Yang came running with three other friends. "Yes Dad?" Yang said. She had dirtied her clothes again, wrestling one of her friends.

"You know better than teaching Ruby words like 'sexy'." Tai said angrily. Summer put her hand on his shoulder.

He sighed and waved Yang away. She ran off with her friends.

Summer giggled and kissed his cheek. Taiyang's cheeks turned crimson red. He took her hand and took her to the living room.

Meanwhile, Ruby went back to her room and kept playing with her dolls. She smiled as she asked the princess to marry her.

"When I grow up, I'm going to marry a princess and I will protect her." She said as she looked out the window.

Little did she know, across from her, a few thousand miles, a young girl named Weiss fantasized of marrying her knight. Not only that, but protecting her as well.

Back to Ruby, she heard a small click and saw Yang's friends. They all laughed at her.

"You can't marry a girl, only boys can." The blue-haired boy said. "Yeah, what are you, a lesbian?!" A pink-haired girl snarled. "Daddy told me gay people have germs!" The green-haired boy said, disgusted.

"Don't you dare say any more!" Yang appeared behind them. "I'm gonna kick all your butts for saying Ruby can't marry a girl! She can of she wants!" Yang yelled as she attacked her friends, biting, scratching and punching them.

They got up and ran from her house, tears in their eyes.

"You okay Ruby?" Yang said as she pulled her into a deep hug. Ruby nodded into her chest, tears freely flowing down her cheeks.

"Don't let what they said get to you. If you want to marry a girl, do it because I do believe in you. And of no girl marries you, I'll marry you, I swear." Yang said.

Then she leaned down and kissed Ruby, gently on her lips.

From the doorway, Summer and Taiyang watched the scene unfold on front of them. They smile at each other.

"We raised them good. Didn't we?" Summer said as she peered through the small crack on the door. "Yeah. We did." Tai said.

"Can you take care of Ruby if... if I don't come back from a mission one day?" Summer asked him, in a pleading tone. "I can, but why?" Tai looked at his wife on front of him.

What was Summer talking about?

"They called me back. I have to finish it this time. I am the only one that can stop it." She said. Tai nodded and they both looked back at Ruby and Yang.

Ruby was playing the princess as Yang was playing the knight. "For risking your life, I will give you a kiss!" Ruby cried out before reaching up and kissing Yang gently.

Summer smiled at her two daughters, living a life full of happiness.

She knew that she wouldn't always live to see Ruby achieve her dreams, but she will always be secretly watching over her.

Two days later, it was finally time for Summer to leave.

Yang, Ruby and Taiyang were saying goodbye to her. All of them were crying.

"Yang and Ruby, be good and grow strong. Listen to Taiyang, and always protect Ruby no matter what, Yang. Don't pick your nose, girls don't like that. Don't judge people, make many friends, some friends are good." Summer said as she leaned down and hugged both of them.

"Tai, take care of both of them, they will both grow up to be the strongest. And don't forget that I love you." She said as she kissed him.

Summer began making her way to the forest, but she could see her family from afar, waving. It put her at ease to know that she had someone looking after Ruby if her Aura was ever unlocked.

Soon she would to realize that she will never be coming back. Ever.

At least Ruby had Taiyang.
