Bryant's POV
"Hurry up Bry we're going to be late!" I heard my girlfriend Jessica shout from the entrance of the school. I rolled my eyes and hurried into the building and walked to class with her hand in hand. As I reached my classroom she pecked my cheek and scurried across the hallway to her class. My legs moved quickly through the door and towards the back of the room, barely missing the bell. I plopped down in my seat and looked up at the teacher Ms. Blake.
"Mr. Stanton, you were almost late again." She scolded while writing the lesson on the front board. I shrugged and started scribbling in my notebook that I've never used. Normally I focused my attention in class, but today I wasn't really feeling into learning anything new. My phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out checking to see who messaged me.
J – We should skip class, it's boring me to death.
I rolled my eyes and glanced up at the teacher, making sure she wasn't paying attention. I quickly tapped away, silently replying to her.
B – You know I can't, coach won't let me play at the game on Friday.
J – Fine, I'll find someone else to skip with then.
I sighed a little too loud at her message, catching the teacher's attention. I secretly slid my phone under my leg and hoped it didn't vibrate again as the teacher approached.
"Is my class really that tiring?" Ms. Blake asked, searching for a phone anywhere near me. I placed my hands on my desk and looked her in the eyes.
"No, I was just thinking about how coach is going to make us do extra sprints after school today." I replied halfway honest. Every week into the season coach always pushes us harder than he did the previous week, and that always means more sprints.
"Alright, just try to keep your sorrow to yourself." She hastily said, and trotted off to her desk. She grabbed a stack of papers and started passing them out. Homework. The worst thing in high school. I grabbed a pencil out of my bag and smiled at the teacher who narrowed her eyes at me. I started working on the homework so I would have free time tonight. I was placing my homework in my bag as the bell rang and I zipped it closed and headed out of the classroom. Somebody jumped on my back and covered my eyes.
"Guess who?" I heard the familiar voice ask. The smell of lavender filled my nose and I took a deep breath.
"Hm, is it Jess?" I asked grabbing her sides and setting her down as she giggled. She reached up and pecked my lips wrapping her arms around my torso.
"Yup, it's me." She said, her face not even three inches away. I pulled back and looked her in the eyes.
"You almost got me in trouble, and we need to get to class." I told her, smiling when she bit her lip.
"I'm not going to class though, I told you. I'm skipping." Jess responded frowning, placing her hands on her hips.
"Okay then, I have to go. Bye Jess." I replied giving her a quick peck on the cheek walking to my next class. I could hear a faint sigh as I turned the corner and sighed to myself. Why did she always act like this?
~
The whistle blew and I took off as fast as I could down the field. My time to beat was 19.86 seconds and I might have a chance of beating it if I start off fast and slowly increase my speed as I run. The only thing that could go wrong is when I turn around at the end of the field. I spun around as quickly as I could and started sprinting until I felt light headed to the starting point. My team mates were far behind me as usual but this time they were at least thirty yards away. I didn't slow down until I ran past the line and then started to slow down. My breaths were breaking from lack of air and I felt my sides cramping so I raised my arms over my head and walked back over to coach. He looked at me with a smile and I knew I had beat my time.
