Joseph hit the snooze button on his alarm clock. It was signaling him that it was time for him to start the day and go to work. He sluggishly got out of the bed and kissed his wife Megan on the forehead on the way out of the bedroom.
He walked down the stairs into the spacious kitchen where his son Donavan was already sitting at the table eating a bowl of cereal. Joseph noticed that his son was still waking up and looked miserable from having to get up early for school. "What's up with the sour face champ? Joseph asked the boy. "I stayed up way too late texting Brianna last night and I got like no sleep." He grumbled.
Brianna was Donavan's first girlfriend and the two had been together for about two months. Donavan seemed to like the girl a good bit. After all, that was most of what he had been talking about since he started dating her. That, or video games. "Well I bet you won't repeat that mistake again." Joseph grinned.
About twenty minutes later, Donavan went out the door to catch his school bus. Joseph had about twenty more minuets until he had to begin the commute to his job. Joseph worked as a security guard at the airport on the outskirts of San Antonio. Joseph decided that he needed a quick shower before standing at a metal detector flagging people for having a couple of quarters in their pocket. He got in the shower and washed his body off in a rather quick manner.
He stepped out of the little room and threw a towel around his waist. He walked up to the mirror and wiped the steam off. He looked at his hair. It was a big mop resting over his eyes. He got some hair gel and slicked his hair back. He continued to run his hands through the dark brown hair, when he heard his wife getting up from the bed. He threw on his uniform; consisting of a blue button down, a badge, and black pants, and went to greet his wife.
When he entered the room, he saw that Megan was on her phone with a bit of a worried look on her face. Joseph walked over to her and sat down on the bed and put his arm around her shoulder. "What's wrong baby?" He asked. "There's a video on the front page of YouTube. There is this guy that the police told to halt. He didn't listen and they shot at him. They shot him seven times. He didn't die. But they hit him in the face and he toppled over." She explained. "Probably on PCP or something. I wouldn't worry about it too much." Joseph reassured.
Joseph pulled into the airport parking garage at the very back of the second floor. He got out of his Dodge Ram and scurried to his post in the airport. He walked into the building and made it to his office. He looked down beside the sign on the desk that read Chief Airport Security. There was a note on his desk.
Joseph examined the note that said that there was a guy detained and he was talking nonsense. Joseph rolled his eyes. "It's gonna be a long day." He mumbled to himself.
Joseph walked over to a small, windowless room in a hall close to his office. He opened the door and inside was a fellow security guard by the name of Michael. There was also a man in a tacky button down and brown thinning hair. "Hey there boss. This man attempted to board an aircraft with a nine millimeter handgun. He claims that there are 'cannibals' after him!" Michael explained. Joseph looked at the man. He looked like he was about to have a panic attack.
"Sir. Why did you try to get through security with a gun." Joseph asked the man. "Because they are coming. Those things have been reported in every state from here to California!" He screamed. "If there was a real threat then we would know." Joseph said. He remembered the video his wife was watching earlier that morning. Was it connected?
Suddenly, another worker ran through the door. It was Joseph's right hand Jane. She was grabbing her arm. It was gushing large amounts of blood. "Joseph! there's a man outside! He just bit a chunk out of my arm!" She screamed in pain.
Joseph grabbed the gun from Michael. He commanded Michael to tend to Jane's wound while he assessed the problem.
