As some of you know, I've been working on a complete adaption of 'Forgotten Redemption' turning the whole series into my own creation rather than being considered a fanfiction. These are the first three chapters of the novel, I hope you enjoy and are able to give me any feedback before the final product is sent to potential publishers. Thank you for everything. :)
He was a malfunctioned product of God's design, internally destroyed by the conveyor belt that many people labelled as life. Or perhaps it meant that the almighty powers in the sky were unkind enough to strike down upon the man who tried his best near enough half of the time.
Blessed with a chiseled face and dusty brown hair that swept over to one side of his forehead the man sat content on the cold concrete steps with an unopened bottle of whiskey held loosely in his right hand between his two rough fingers. The golden liquid swam at the bottom of the bottle as he sighed deeply allowing the grains of stubble to push against the underneath of his fingernails as he scratched the side of his face.
"Mr.Turner, is your dad in his office? There's been a breach." A sweaty teenager by the name of Harrison jogged towards the steps of the main building in a panic.
"My name's Josh and I haven't got a bloody clue, why don't you go and check yourself?" Joshua Jay Turner groaned as the teen scuttled up the steps before pushing the glass doors violently open.
Josh bit down on his bottom lip as he looked up towards the mess that had been created by the community. Down the street by the large wall that housed and protected them all a mass amount of men with knives and various other weapons contently stabbed the undead creatures as they attempted to enter the premises.
It had been at least eight years since the outbreak started to destroy society, breaking humanity down into savages that cared more about feeding off of flesh than taxes and how fast food wasn't fast at all. Josh's father John had taken it upon himself to build society back up with his own bare hands, constructing four walls around a community, scheduling patrols, rationing supplies and most importantly making sure the monsters on the outside didn't reach the living on the inside.
It wasn't long before Harrison tumbled out of the glass door and sprinted down the steps towards the crime scene. Josh raised his eyebrows lazily at the passer-by before repeatedly pressing his thumb against the top of the bottle.
"You've been sat on these damn steps all day; make yourself useful and help out with this mess." A bearded man in his late forties spoke as he passed his son sat aimlessly on the steps with nothing more to do than to ponder his own existence. The father angrily slapped his palm against the back of his son's head on the way down the steps.
John had always been seen as a reasonable father, the community looked up to the greying man as someone who was willing to do anything for his sons. However Josh would strongly disagree on the matter; regrettably knowing his father inside-out.
No matter how much Josh resembled his father his aim in life seemed to be to get as far away from his personality as humanly possible. Behind closed doors, John Turner could be cruel, more commonly to his mistake of a second born son.
Josh was nothing like his older brother Danny. Instead of being completely full of force and stern eyes something about the youngest Turner was different, his heart was warm and full of care for the ones he loved. Josh took more after his mother than anyone else in the family although it had been around 8 years since her death, it had happened the same time everyone was attempting to get away from the brainwashed cannibalistic humanoids.
"I'm a little busy doing nothing right now, I'm sure you can handle it." Josh waved back as he internally prayed his father would get off of his case.
