He didn't really think about the calls much. They all had different numbers, different locations, some coming from the opposite side of the world. It didn't bother him that they always came on the third Sunday of every month. Maybe he just chose to ignore them, and maybe that's why there was a call on the second Sunday, this month.

Hello. My name is Stephen Bailey, and I have spent my entire life doing one thing: writing about people. I know it may sound creepy, but I do have my reasons. See, there are "creatures" all over the world. In your house, at the bus stop, eating ice cream on a park bench, and even reading this book. They are everywhere, and catching them all is impossible. They are simply too strong, and the quantity is too immense for the human mind to even imagine. Think of all the people you have ever seen in your life. Now, multiply that by a quadrillion, and that's only approximately an eighth of all the "creatures" (we call them Hemiplegics, or Hemis for short.) that abide in the Milky Way galaxy alone. They are literally everywhere, and the only way we know they exist, is because they transform into humans. Now, "transform" is a term normally used for something turning into something else, but it's more of a possession with a tweak. When a Hemi transforms, it seeps into the body of a human, normally through the skin, and turns into that person, but there is more to it then that. They control everything about the person, have access to all of their memories, and have the power to act exactly like that human, except one thing. The person's biggest insecurity is blown way out of proportion. The slight left curve to your nose from when you got hit with a baseball in second grade? Your constant worry. You think you are too short? You keep an extra pair of stilettos in every bag you carry. Hemis can't grasp the concept of not being perfect, so everything you do is set on becoming perfect. Which is part of the reason they're so dangerous. And another thing that makes them so mysterious, is that not everyone is being controlled by these mutant beasts. There is a certain window of opportunity in a person's life where they are weakest. So consumed in self-hatred and insecurities, that they surrender themselves to it, and suddenly everything has meaning again. Most of the time, we don't even remember those moments in our lives, because the Hemis have erased it so they don't have to worry about their vessel becoming self-aware. The year that you can be entered? 17.

So, if you're a super-geek, and have googled the term "Hemiplegic", you would realize that it means paralysis on one side of the body, which is the reason we used the term. The last hook that the Hemis throw our way? You never know you've been taken over. You continue your life as if nothing has happened. You don't realize you no longer have control over yourself. Normally there are just minor flaws in the Hemi system. You sometimes forget why you walked into another room, and then you turn around to go back, and the Hemi has to figure out the glitch. Someone walks up to you and starts talking, but you don't know their name, it's because the Hemi has too much to focus on, and they have to reboot your memory. It's a hard concept to understand but you just have to bear with me. What I am about to tell you is specifically classified, and no one else can know.
