Chapter 2
Everyone waited anxiously for Rick to get out of surgery. Once the doctor came out he said, "I'm sorry everyone. We tried everything we could. He is in a coma and there's no way of knowing if he will come out of it." Kate started crying harder than she had ever did. "What do you mean? He can't be in a coma. We need him. We all love him so much. And he loves us." Alexis said, while tears were falling and leaning on Martha. "This can't be happening." Martha said, in denial. "I need to see him." Kate said. "Yes, that's fine. Only two visitors at a time, please." "Well that's not going to happen, the three of us are going to see him and there's nothing you can do about it." Kate said, angrily. "Lex and Martha, come with me." The red heads just nodded, went over to her and fell into Kate's arms, having a three way hug. Esposito, Ryan and Lanie decided to wait outside the hospital room so the girls could have some alone time with their loved one.
They went in the hospital room. Seeing the sight of Rick with wires hooked up to him completely broke all of their hearts. Kate couldn't help herself, all she did was cry. She sat next to his bedside and softly caressed his cheek. "I love you, Rick. Please come back to me. I can't imagine my life without you." Kate said, holding his hand. Alexis joined her, "dad, I love you so much. You have always been there for me. I can't lose you. Please wake up." She kissed his forehead. Before Martha could say anything to her son, a beeping noise started to go off. "No, Rick. Don't do this to me please!" Kate yelled. The doctors ran in. "You all have to leave." One of them said, pulling Kate's hand off of Rick's. Alexis was shaking and Martha held her close. "None of us are leaving. He's my fiancé." "Yeah, and he's my son." Martha said and Alexis was too shocked to couldn't say anything. "You are not going to make us leave." Kate said, walking back to Rick's bedside, while the doctors were working on him. They tried everything and nothing was working. Rick flatlined. "I'm sorry. We did everything we could. He's gone." One of doctors said.
