There were many things this world could offer, from living beings like humans and animals to man-made structures like Martias Cathedral. I would know better for a girl who has been out of this world.
My name is Alice. I am 14 this year. I look like your normal girl with straight black hair and purple eyes. I live in Yargul, the land of riches. This being said though, I live in the slums. Here in Martias House of Orphans, no one could be called rich, not even the caretakers. We live of the little donations given to the Cathedral, the only 'holy' thing about this town. The rich bask in their fortunes while we sit here and starve.
If that doesn't sound bad enough, I am gladly called Ms.Mad Head because of my colour changing eyes. Though I have never seen it myself, my roomates and even the caretakers would say my eyes change colour every now and then. Or rather, 'eye'. Apparently, my left eye would change to a bright red, unmissable so long as you look.
I first knew about it when my friends stared at me for a long time, looking straight into my eyes. I thought they had just seen a ghost, which was very common in these parts. When they had told me to go look in a mirror, I saw nothing. This happened countless times, and before long I realised, I just don't care anymore. It has been ten years since it first appeared and after that period of running to the nearest mirror to see something that would not be there anymore, it just seemed like a waste of energy to bother.
Though why would I explain any of this? Because it is affecting me and my chances of getting out of here. Anyone in their proper mind would know NOT to adopt the eye colour changing freak and because of this, no one would even come to look at me. It is a miserable life.
The only thing I do other than begging and cleaning the Cathedral is read a book. A book called "The Abyss". It is a story about a young traveller who got sucked into the Abyss for a sin that he had done. In order to escape, he must atone for his sin. I have easily read through this 400 paged book atleast 50 times. The language isn't hard so I could read it at a young age.
What truly interested me about this book was the sin the traveller had done. Apparently he had stolen an angel's chalice, the Archeim Chalice. Its guardian, the Archliess Angel, had punished him by sending him to the Abyss. Though, he himself didn't know he had it. So why, for something as simple as a repenting for stealing a chalice, was he sent to the Abyss? All he had to do was give it back... it felt like there was something more. Something that was... left out.
Ten years, countless of theories, and mountains of ideas are what keep me going. Truly, the Abyss is mysterious and yes, it is nothing but a child's tale to make sure they don't do bad things, but I can't help but wonder why...
