Genre: Mystery, Thriller, & ChickLit

Rating: PG13

Summary:

Despite the illusion Sapphire Dubois presents to the rest of the world, she is not just your stereotypical 22-year old Beverly Hills heiress; she hunts serial killers. While her fellow heirs spend their nights with trending celebs and drugs at the hottest club, Sapphire secretly spends hers luring, capturing, and anonymously handing over So-Cal’s most wanted killers to the police — just your average Tuesday night.

What Sapphire doesn’t know is that one of her adversaries is watching her every move, aware of both her true identity and her unconventional hobby. Needless to say, he doesn’t approve.

Used to being the one who redefines the definition of predator and prey, Sapphire’s world abruptly shatters when a gruesome ‘gift’ arrives for her at the Beverly Hills Country Club. With her involuntary crush, handsome Detective Aston Ridder, close on her tail, Sapphire now has to rethink her routine strategy and figure out how to capture a killer who already knows she’s coming.

MY REVIEW:

This website has some talented fantasy writers, but lacks good mysteries. Or use to, because I’ve found some really good writers here recently.

So ‘Stalking Sapphire’ was recently recommended to me by Wattpad…and is one of the few books from that list that I’ve actually enjoyed reading. This book is more ‘thriller’ than some of the books I’ve reviewed on here (less quirky, but still humorous).

At first glance, Sapphire (M.C.) lives her life as a typical ‘Beverly Hills’ heiress. But this girl actually hates all that that life entails, and for the last couple of years, she’s been hunting down serial killers…making fools of cops everywhere.

She’s good at it too…that is until she becomes the one being hunted down.

And that’s about all I can say about the story, without giving it all away of course.

The characters are all well developed; the main character(s) especially grow quite a bit through the chapters. They’re faced with personal problems, and strenuous relationships that will tug at your heart strings.

I loved the M.C’s (both of them). Sapphire is a badass, and easy to root for. Detective Aston is grouchy, but still lovable. His sarcastic remarks made me really love the chapters in his P.O.V.

Throughout all the ‘darkness’ in the writing, the human aspect to the characters remains intact, and that makes the reader like them all.

Even the really annoying ones. And there are a few of those…and some other really colorful characters that even out the tension in the writing.

There is a little romance in the writing as well (for those of you who like that kind of stuff).

The mystery itself is pretty well developed. I’m not going to lie…I was fooled at the beginning of the book. I felt for all the ‘bait’, and I didn’t guess the ‘culprit’ until close to the end.

And that’s the way I like it.

A great mystery, with some remarkable characters…I would highly recommend this!
