Chapter Three

Chapter 3: Time

Damon's POV

I couldn't help but listen in on their conversation I heard my name too many times. I knew I caused them to fight, but I never wanted to break them up. Then I heard her say it 'I'm in love Damon' I couldn't help but smile but it faded as I heard both my baby brother and Elena cry. I bolted out my window not wanting to eavesdrop anymore. I loved Elena more than anyone she was pure, beautiful, caring ,strong, loving and most of all she saw the good in me that no one ever saw not even stefan. I decided on just giving them both some time I would stay away from both until they contacted me. After about an hour of just walking around in town. My phone went off

Elena:Hey can you stop by my house I need someone to talk to.

Damon:sure if you really want me to

Elena:yes please

Damon: be there soon

Wow that didn't take long. I ran to her house and was there in seconds and I went thru her window. The sight broke my heart she was curled up in a ball and had red puffy eyes.

"Elena" I breathed out and automatically wrapped my arms around her she returned the hug and started sobbing. Finally after a few minutes she sat up whipped her tears away.

"Stefan broke up with me" I looked in her eyes

"I know" she looked back at me

"How do you know" there was no point in lying

"I heard the conversation, it was pretty deep and emotional" I said with a sincere voice not a hint of sarcasm

"How much did you hear, she looked down embarrassed" I picked her chin up forcing her to look at me

"Enough" I smiled at her she returned a faint small smile she sighed

"Damon obviously you heard either all or most of the conversation so ill just recap, yes damon I do love you and I don't regret loving you it's just I feel horrible about stefan and I feel like we should give it time before anything happens between us" she said I smiled because I got to hear her say she loved me

"I love you Elena always have since the day I met you and you know that, take all the time you need and by the way here" I handed her the deed "stefan signed the paper earlier you are the official owner of the Salvatore home" I turned to walk away but Elena grabbed my arm pulling me into her amazing hug I instantly hugged back and planted a kiss on her forehead

"We will continue our conversation when you are ready Elena but for right now you need to come back home with me to invite stefan and I into our home" Elena laughed

"Okay"

Elena's POV

As we walked up to the house I saw stefan waiting his face was red he turned away not wanting me to see he was crying and he obviously could tell I was crying. I walked past the Salvatore brothers into the house I looked stefan dead in the eyes

"Stefan please come inside" he ran up the stairs to his room I wasn't hurt by that, he needed time. I turned to look at damon

"Damon will you.....oh wait I need a drink first" damon smirked

"What are we 5 elena" I laughed

"Damon please come inside and enjoy my fake home" he laughed and walked in

"Well I'm going to take off" I started to walk out the door but before I left i turned to Damon

"Damon watch over him please I don't want him to lose himself over me"

Damon nodded with a serious look as if he already promised himself he was going to do that.

And I left.

Stefan's POV

I heard the door close behind precious Elena. I sighed because even if we broke up she still deeply cared for me and asked damon to watch over me. I won't lose myself I want her happy and that means I have to stay strong. I got up and walked downstairs to damon. He looked at me and I saw something in his eyes I hadn't seen in a very long time I saw happiness.

"Damon, look I understand everything with Elena and I just want you to know I'm not happy about Elena but that doesn't mean I'm not happy for you" he smiled and saw it again I saw human Damon coming back

"Stefan I'm sorry I never meant for me to love her, but it happened she is a special girl. I just also want you to know that I forgive you" I was confused but he continued

"I forgive you for forcing me to turn and everything that's happened since Katherine and that I'm also sorry for the pain I've caused you brother" I was shocked Damon never apologizes for anything and especially not to me

"Damon, I can tell Elena was never good for me but she IS good for you. She has brought back my brother that I have missed so much" I continued as he watched me carefully "I'm not leaving town, I won't lose it I want to stay and be here for you and Elena, I just need time to deal, it won't take long because I know that I will always love her" damon nodded and he walked to his room. oh how I missed the humanity in him

Elena's POV

I was sad but not because stefan and I broke up but because it hurt him more than it hurt me. I love him don't get me wrong but I feel as if he was already great on his own and didn't need me but damon when I'm with him I pull the best out of him and he makes me feel like the I'm the only girl he sees. It's real with him and with stefan it was pretty on the outside not the inside. Damon makes me dream with my eyes open. As I was thinking I heard a tap on my window and in came a slender figure

"Can I help you Katherine, today isn't a good day" she looked concerned and I decided to just tell her

"Stefan and I broke up" she looked genuinely confused

"Why? I know he loved you so much I saw it in him" I looked down and felt so horrible and then the weirdest thing happened I felt small arms wrap around my shoulder and it felt...normal

"I'm sorry Elena as time passes it will get easier" I looked at her with a smile

"I know, thank you" she smiled

"Now we have two weeks before klaus arrives do you have the deed to the house?" I nodded and she smiled

"Okay everything is in motion I'll be in contact elena" I smiled and she left

Could I really trust her, I feel as if she is even a friend what has happened to Katherine it feels like she actually cares. I needed to ask her some question but that can wait until tomorrow.
