Chapter 9: A Dream? Or A Nightmare?

Start from the beginning

"Nagisa? Where are you?" I called out, hoping to find out where he was.

"Karma-kun," Nagisa said again in a different area, making it difficult for me to pinpoint his location.

"Nagisa?"

"You failed me." He said.

"What?"

"You failed me," He spoke again and I could feel emotion in the sentence.

"What do you mean I failed you?" I asked, turning around constantly but all I could see was the walls that slowly faded away with the dimming ceiling light.

"You left me." He yelled, angry.

"Left you? Nagisa, what are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb." He pried. "You know exactly what I'm talking about."

"No, I swear I don't, Nagisa. Hey, just come out already so we can talk." I offered.

"No, you'll betray me again." Nagisa rejected and I felt a pain in my heart.

"Nagisa, please," I nearly begged, "I'm so confused right now, please explain what's going on."

"I can't trust you," He said but this time it sounded forced.

"Nagisa?" I whispered.

"Stop it..." He muttered, almost too low for me to hear.

The voice had stopped moving and was now originating from a location I could pinpoint easier.

"Nagisa, are you alright?" I stepped towards the empty bed, careful not to make any sudden moves.

"Please go away," He said, whimpering. And this time, I could tell he was underneath the bed.

I kneeled down. "Nagisa?"

I was shocked to see what I saw. It wasn't the Nagisa I was used to seeing on a daily basis. Oh no, it wasn't even close to that.

Nagisa's hair was down and up to his shoulders. His pale and slender body snaked around the bottom of the bed and he wore a simple hospital gown.

His eyes were different, almost scary. Instead of his sky blue eyes, his eyes had turned to a dull dark color and tears streamed down from them. His hair was an absolute mess and his arms were shaking. His skin was much more pale than he had ever seen before.

His legs had a strange mark on them. A number. 942.

And on his left leg had two letters printed on it. S. K.

Confusion wrapped around my mind.

"Nagisa, are you alright?"

"K-Karma-kun," He stuttered, shaking even more.

I reached out my hand to comfort him but when I tried to take his hand, he moved away, crawling further behind.

"S-stay away," Nagisa told me, more tears falling down his face and onto the ground. "Please."

I stayed still but refused to leave. This felt like a dream but even if it was, I wouldn't abandon my best friend. Never in a thousand years.

"Nagisa, tell me what's wrong," I tried again.

"Please leave," He told me again, "I don't want to hurt you."

"Hurt me?"

Nagisa widened his eyes as if he had just broken a serious law while saying that. He wrapped his arms around his legs and buried his face in his knees.

I could hear the whimpers that came from his mouth.

"Nagisa..."

He looked up at me again, this time with a different face. A face that did not belong to the boy I knew for three years.

A wide smile formed and eyes shone with insanity. "He warned you," The voice spoke, dark and dreary. It was the voice from before. It bounced off the walls and if I wasn't staring it right in the eye, I wouldn't have known where it was.

"Karma-kun~" It teased, speaking my name in the way Nagisa would call me. But, this wasn't Nagisa. No, it was something else that took his body.

"Who are you?" I demanded.

"What are you talking about, Karma-kun~? It's me, Nagisa." It spoke again, moving his pale arms in front of his face and around his fragile neck.

"Don't you remember me?"

"W-who are you," I repeated, less force in the words. I didn't know why but was I....scared?

Nagisa wrapped his fingers around his neck.

His voice came back. This time it was Nagisa. "R-run, Karma-kun," He barely choked out before he started to close his fists that were locked onto his neck, getting rid of air circulation in his body.

"Nagisa!" I shouted, reaching my hand towards him.

"Run!" He screamed as he erupted into a large pillar of white light.

Unconsciously, I raised my arms to my face to shield my eyes from the blinding light.

I was so confused. For a second, Nagisa wasn't there. That voice wasn't his. But, then he came back? What was going on with him?

When I could feel that the light was dimming, I retracted my arms from my face and let my eyes adjust to the lighting.

I blinked several times.

"-rma! -arma! Karma! Karma!" I heard someone repeat my name, over and over.

I groaned and blinked some more. The blurry image of a man in a suit came into my mind.

"Karasuma-sensei?" I muttered, groaning from the throbbing pain that was inside my head.

"Karma! You're finally awake!" My teacher exclaimed.

Awake? So all of that was a dream? Or, perhaps, a nightmare?

My eyes widened and I quickly got off the bed I was in. "Nagisa," I spoke, "Where's Nagisa?"

Almost instantly after getting off the bed, my legs gave out on me and I fell into the arms of my teacher. "Calm down, Karma. You need some rest before you get up. Your mind isn't fully healed."

"Healed? What do you mean? What the hell is going on around here?" I demanded answers, my mind was swirling around and my stomach turned on itself. I felt bile creeping up my throat and I quickly threw myself to the nearest trash can to proceed to throw up.

The taste that I felt in my dream was still in my mouth, as if it wasn't a dream at all.

I turned back to my teacher who stood there calmly.

"Ugh," I groaned, crawling back to my bed. "I feel horrible."

"Are you alright Karma?" Karasuma-sensei asked me and I gave him a screw-you look.

"Did you not just hear what I said?" I questioned. I felt cranky. Extremely cranky actually.

"You did good," he told me, nodding his head as if in approval.

Ha, like I need his approval on anything.

"Did good on what? You need to explain what the hell is going on around here."

He nodded his head once again. "Very well. I owe you that much at the very least."

"Uh, yeah." I said. "You do."

Well, here's the next update, as promised.

How's the cliffhanger? What's going on with Nagisa? What's Karasuma going to tell Karma?

You'll find all this out on the next chapter! (Lol)

Hope you enjoyed it!
