I opened my eyes to my alarm clock sounding. 6:30 came so fast. I groaned.
"Man, this finna be a long year," I said.
I proceeded to get ready for the first day of school. I wore black skinny jeans, a white v-neck, and my sleeveless jean jacket with sandals. Something simple.
As usual, I was forced to put on my glasses because I was afraid of wearing contacts, and my vision wasn't the best. When I got ready to proceed out the door to meet SJ at the bus stop, ma stopped me at the door. "Wait, lemme take your picture to put on Facebook for your aunties and uncles to see." The typical first day thing she did every year.
" Dang ma , you're gonna make me late", I said impatiently. She loved to brag to our family about how smart I was and the many awards I've received. She finally took the pic.
"Love you baby girl ," she said as she handed me a paper sack (my lunch) and kissed me on the cheek. I left. I walked to the bus stop where SJ was waiting on me. He looked extra fine today.
"Ahhh.... Why is he so fine?"
"Wassup Ky!" He said greeting me. I wasn't even paying attention to what he was saying. I was so memorized by his sexiness. Why didn't he have a girl-friend? Better yet why was I his bestfriend? By the time I thought to respond to him, our bus had arrived.
"SJ you look nice today. What'd you do get a makeover?" I asked. He did his sexy laugh.
"Nah. But, you lookin' mighty fly yourself," he said. I blushed.
The bus pulled up to Transton High. I could feel the butterflies being gained in my stomach. SJ stepped off the bus first, then held his hand out for me to grab it as I stepped down. His dad taught him how to be a gentleman when he was younger, so he was always doing things like that. We looked around and saw people crowdin' around the wall outside the school doors. It had our names and homeroom sections.
Surprisingly me and SJ found our names, and we were in the same homeroom. What a relief. You know how most people who've known each other their whole lives get split up in high school? Well I was hoping that didn't happen to us.... at least until I made other friends. We were guided by the room numbers on the halls inside the huge building.
The seniors bumped into us yelling "watch out freshman", and "these lil kids needa' get out the way".
I turned around and gave all of em a look. "Y'all seniors are extra salty. Are we not in the same predicament you were in four years ago? what y'all got against us," I mumbled. They didn't scare me one bit. We finally arrived to our class. It was about empty since people were still making their way down the halls. Based on what I saw so far from high school, everybody had their own little clique.
You have the emos, the preppies, gang members, popular girls, and the ones that have dated half the football and basketball team by the end of the year. Yeah them the ones.. SJ pulled out his phone to read a text message. I slightly read the message.
It read "Yo you in or not? Forget all the lil boy games. This is grown man business!"
"Aight G. When?"
"Wednesday."
Wait...... this don't even sound right? It seem like some gansta type stuff. "Nah, my bestfriend to smart for that," I thought. What's really going on?
I acted like I didn't see what his messages said. "Did ya girl text you?" I asked.
He laughed. "I'm solo dolo" he said.
'That was a smooth way to shut me up" I thought.
