Chapter 2

Sang's POV

I found my mom in her bedroom. She was laying on her bed reading.

"I'm home," I say to her.

"What took you so long? You were supposed to be home hours ago," she asked in a strict voice.

"It took me longer than I thought to finish my Pre-Calc exam, then I had to go finish my Spanish Exam and that took forever too," I lie. She wouldn't understand me going to hang out at the park.

"Is your room clean," she asks me, seeming to have accepted my lie.

"Almost," I say.

"Go clean it, and don't come out until it's spotless," she orders me. I retreat and head back to my room. I shut my door and turn my music up. I pick up the two articles of clothing on the floor and the box of chalk pastels.

"Well that was easy," I mutter to myself. I turn on my music and look around for my kitten. I find him curled up asleep on my bed with my stuffed Olaf. I take a quick picture then find a bowl in my craft supplies and fill it with food. I set it on the floor in my closet. I fill another bowl with water and put it next to the food. I had grabbed the bag of cat litter out of the trunk that we kept there during the winter. With our Michigan winters, it was smart to carry sand or litter in your trunk so that if you get stuck in the snow, you just lay the litter down and it helps your tires gain traction. I filled a box with litter and set it in the corner of my room.

"There you go Mittens. Everything you need for right now," I tell him. He just opens one sleepy eye to stare at me. I go and sit on my bed. I grab the book I was reading and curl up with it. Mittens comes and curls up on my chest, so I pet him while reading. I get lost in the book and lose track of time.

"Sang! Why isn't dinner ready? It was supposed to be made a half hour ago," my mother yells from across the house. I snap out of my book and look at the clock. Shit, I lost track of time. It's already 6:30. She wants me to have dinner ready by 6 every night.

"I'm coming. I lost track of time," I say getting up and leaving the room. I find my mom standing in the kitchen with her hands on her hips.

"What was so interesting that you forgot to make dinner," she sneers at me.

"I was reading. I got absorbed in the book and forgot to look at the clock," I tell her honestly.

"Wait here," she commands. She walks into her bedroom. She appears moments later with a bottle of eye drops.

"Take your contacts out," she tells me. I do and when I have a bit of trouble grabbing one she smacks me.

"Tilt your head back," she says. I just look at her confused.

"What are those," I ask nodding at the bottle in her hand. She just ignores me and grabs my hair yanking my head back. She puts the drops in my eyes. They burn like crazy and I try to blink them out, but she just puts more in. The burning subsides and I realize that I can't see.

"What the hell did you do to me," I yell angrily.

"I know that you weren't at school all day. You lied to me. You also are shirking your chores, because of some stupid book. I solved both issues. Now you can't drive or read," she says in an angry tone. She shoves me to the ground and I can hear her leaving. I struggle to make my way to my room. I find my phone on my bed. I try to undo the lock and finally draw my pattern right. I hear it make the unlock sound. I push at where I'm pretty sure the call button is. I hit where Melinda's name should be. I hear the phone ringing and I hope that I called the right person.
