Holding On

Chapter 15

Antonio's P.O.V.

W. M. Lewis once said the tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it

To be honest I was shocked. I didn't expect Jay to hug me. I expected him to punch my at least. But I knew what he was feeling. I care about Taylor so much and now what we have to do is beyond me. They can't seriously pull the plug, but what Conner told me I guess made sense. They can't keep her on that for long, but at least we caught the guy. We pulled away "Come on, let's go with her"

I opened the door and we walked back in silence. Jay walked in her room and I took out my phone to dial the rest of the team. After doing so I walked in and we both sat next to her on each side of the bed

We were in silence for quite some time until Jay spoke up "Do you really care about her?"

I looked up at him and noticed he was looking at me. I nodded my head "Yea, yea I do" He stayed silent and looked back down at Taylor. I took a hard swallow and looked back at her. Great, my girlfriend is going to die and now my partner hates me for life. What else can go wrong? I thought. I continued to hold her hand when we noticed Will and Dr. Rhodes walk in

"Is it time?" Jay asked as we both looked up

"I can give you a little more time if you'd like. But not too much time" Dr. Rhodes explained

I turned my head back to Taylor and took a deep breath. I guess they really are going to do this. I could feel the hot tears beginning but I did my best holding them back. I looked down at our hands and as soon as I did my heart began to race. I let out a small gasp

"Dr. Rhodes" I said making everyone turn their eyes on me "She just moved her hand" I announced not taking my eyes off of our hands

"What?" Dr. Rhodes asked as he walked over to me. We waited for a couple seconds but she didn't move anything "Look Antonio.." He began

"No, no I know what I saw. She moved her hand I swear"

Dr. Rhodes sighed "That can happen, but it doesn't mean much"

"You have to believe me, I swear she moved her hand. Maybe it doesn't mean anything. But maybe it does" I said in a pleading voice "There's gotta be something you can do"

There was silence that filled the room for a minute. Dr. Rhodes looked at me and only me before he spoke "Hey Reese" He called out I'm guessing the nurse

"Yes Doctor" She said as she walked in

"Get Taylor prepped for a CT scan" He gave me a nod before we all walked out

I ran my hands over my face and let out a calm sigh. Okay, maybe this means something. It has to mean something

Jay's P.O.V.

Antonio and I walked outside to the waiting room. We found our entire team inside waiting. As soon as we both walked in everyone looked up to us

"They're taking Taylor in for a CT scan. We may have some hope now" I announced. Everyone nodded and we wall say around waiting and waiting

After a awhile of waiting Dr. Rhodes came back out. We wall looked up at him. It was like in the movies, where the soft music comes out as we look up at him to hear the news

"The CT scan came back rather quickly. And it appears she has normal brain activity again. It's slowly emerging, to be honest with you it's pretty remarkable. I've seen this case only happen about once" Dr. Rhodes explained

I exhaled in relief "So she's going to be okay?"

"It looks like it. If she keeps up with it then she'll be okay. She's in serious but stable condition. Right now everything is up to her" He explained

"Thanks" I said with a small nod gesture. He patted my shoulder "She's in room 218" He said and walked off

A little bit later everyone left expect for me. For a couple hours I stayed by Taylor's side. I turned my attention to her when I heard her groan. She moved her head side to side slowly and opened her eyes softly and stared at the ceiling. After she turned her head slowly to me

"Hey" I said and cleared my throat

She stared at me for a second "Hi" She said with a whisper

I ran my thumb softly across her hand and smiled. We didn't say much for a minute but just stare at each other. I brought her hand up and kissed it. I'm just so happy she's okay, she's awake

She turned her head and looked around the room before looking at me "Where's Antonio?" Her voice was sort of raspy

"He uh, he went back to the District"

"Oh" She said in a disappointed tone

"But he'll be back later" I said trying to cheer her up

She looked away "Yea"

"I'm gonna go get Dr. Rhodes" I said

Taylor nodded but didn't even look at me. I felt bad, she probably hates me because of what happened. I simply stood up and walked out
