Fun Fact: this story was inspired by the relationship between my mom and her mother-in-law.
A set of blue eyes calmly took in the situation and said, "Everything looks uglier up close!" This couldn't be more true, except that it didn't really help out with the dilemma at hand. "I fail to see how it gets any better further away." Two hands roughly gripped the stiff polyester that made up the dilemma and stretched it around as if to prove the point that no angle could possible make the fluffy white cat seem more like a fluffy white ball. It also didn't help that the fluffy white cat was stitched into an itchy red sweater. "She's going to expect me to wear this to the family Christmas party in a month and I mean honestly my boobs disappeared and my skin tone looks dead."
"To be fair, your skin tone has always been like that, you're just nitpicking now, El." The blue eyed girl sipped on her refreshed glass of Chardonnay and tried to do damage control. This was almost routine by now for her, Elizabeth's family practically screamed '80s Style Matching Family Portrait'. It was a curse and no matter how far Elizabeth traveled, it followed. "Okay Mara, go ahead and tell me exactly how I'm supposed to face the devil and her henchmen if I'm being forced to wear this monstrosity!" Mara considered the sweater as if it were a boxing opponent and she was searching for its weakness. "Why don't you just wear something red that resembles the sweater! Your grandma is practically blind anyways, what's it going to hurt!" El considered it for a moment, always one to overthink, and nodded her approval.
"El, all you have to do is walk in there, prove that you aren't a raving lunatic and show fucking Ben how much he should regret cheating on you with your sister, easy peasy!"
